Nigeria Opens 14 Airports for Domestic Operation

The Federal Government of Nigeria said 14 airports were now accessible for domestic flight operations in the country. Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation in a tweet on his official twitter handle said that 14 airports were now fully operational for domestic and commercial flights. The minister said that ministerial approvals for private and charter flights in and out of the 14 airports were not required, as the public would be informed of the other airports in due course. Moroccans Risk Fine, Jail for Failing to Wear Mask in Public

Moroccan government on Saturday said citizens who fail to wear face mask in public could be fine a maximum of 140 U.S dollars or up to three months incineration. The Interior Ministry said in a statement, “Anyone who refuses to wear a mask in public will face a term of one to three months’ imprisonment and a fine of between 32 dollars and 140 dollars, without excluding other severe criminal penalties.” This warning follows “the laxity of certain people with regard to compliance with the mandatory measures of wearing protective masks outside the home,” the ministry statement noted. Rwanda Launches Economic Recovery Program for Creative Industry

Rwanda on Friday launched a multi-party COVID-19 recovery program known as Cultural and Creative Industry Recovery Plan to uphold enterprises in the cultural and creative industry, as well as artists. According to a press release, the recovery plan aims to support seven Rwandan federations in the sectors of music, film, plastic arts, writing, beauty and fashion, traditional dance and performing arts It targets to provide 300 million Rwandan francs (about 313,000 U.S. dollars) in grants to uphold initiatives from art enterprises and artists, promote access to resources, facilities and training opportunities free for artists, and engage Rwandans to learn about, love and buy made-in-Rwanda art. More than one Month after Abuja Concert, Naira Marley Yet to be Prosecuted

COVID-19: Tunisia Bars Ships of French Transport Company, Corsica Linea from Anchoring on its Ports

Tunisia has banned the ships of French transport company Corsica Linea from docking on its shores as crew test positive for COVID-19. Habib Ghedira, member of Tunisia’s committee to confront the COVID-19 was quoted by Mosaique FM radio on Saturday to have said that that the decision was taken by government to preempt spread of the disease in the North African country. This came after many crew members of a ship belonging to Corsica Linea company, which operated the Marseille-Tunis route from July 1 to July 10, tested positive for COVID-19. COVID-19 Update: Nigeria Reports 653 New COVID-19 Cases, Brings Confirmed Cases to 36,107

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 653 new cases of COVID-19, in the country. Nigeria currently has 36,107 confirmed cases with 778 deaths while 14,938 patients have been discharged so far. Nigeria’s House of Representatives have asked the Federal Government to reconsider its position on the cancellation of the 2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Their position was contained in a statement released in Abuja by the Chairman of the   House Committee on Basic Education and Services, Julius Ihonvbere (APC-Edo) on Friday. The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to commence disinfection of schools across the federation from June 7, 2020 in preparation for the resumption of school after protracted COVID-19 induced closure.
