Breaking: EFCC Grills Lagos Speaker Over Fraud Allegations

  The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is currently at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission where he is responding to questions bothering on his alleged involvement in fraud. The spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, told the Punch newspaper that Obasa was invited and he honoured the invitation at the Lagos zonal office of the commission on Thursday. “He was invited, not arrested. He is responding to questions,” Uwujaren said. Obasa was recently in the news for several allegations of corruption. BREAKING: Four Killed, Scores Injured as Gas Plant Explodes in Lagos  

Lagos has witnessed fresh explosion as Best Roof Cooking Gas plant exploded on Thursday in the Baruwa community of the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State. The explosion which happened around 5:45am on Thursday led to the death of four persons while scores were injured in the explosion which occurred around Unity Bus-Stop on Candos Road, Baruwa. A primary school and other valuable properties within the area were affected by the explosion, Punch reports.   President Muhammadu Buhari will present the 2021 Appropriations Bill to a Joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday. Buhari’s letter of request was read during plenary by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, in Abuja. The letter reads: “May I crave the kind indulgence of the Distinguished Senate to grant me the slot of 11:00hrs on Thursday, 8th October, 2020, to formally present the 2021 Appropriation bill to the Joint Session of the National Assembly. “While I look forward to addressing the Joint session, please, accept Mr. Senate President, the assurances of my highest regard.”

Breaking: Appeal Court Affirms Gov. Diri’s Election

The Court of Appeal in Abuja today has upheld the election of the Bayelsa State governor, Duoye Diri. The court set aside the August 18, 2020 verdict of the Bayelsa State Governorship Petitions Tribunal which had ordered a fresh poll to be conducted within 90 days. The Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP), had petitioned the court over alleged unlawful exclusion of its candidate, King George from the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The tribunal had in a split decision of two-to-one, voided the November 16, 2019 Bayelsa State governorship poll. However, a five-man panel of the Court of Appeal headed by Justice Adeliza  Mshelia upturned the lower court’s verdict and validated Diri’s election. Breaking: Nigerian FEC Approves N13.08tn Budget for 2021

  The Nigerian Federal Executive Council (FEC) has projected a N13.08 trillion budget for the 2021 fiscal year. Speaking to State House Correspondents after the weekly virtual FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, also said the oil benchmark has been pegged at $40 per barrel. The Minister, who was flanked by Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba; the Minister for Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Mr Ben Akabueze, also said the projected Capital Expenditure for the year is projected at N2.083 trillion. Nigeria: NLC Insists on Strike Commencing 28th Sept. 2020

The Nigerian Labour Congress has doubled down on its position that there will be a Nation-wide strike from the 28th of September 2020 unless their demands are met. In a post shared on their Facebook Page, the union said "STRIKE BEGINS TOMMOROW MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER, UNLESS OUR DEMANDS ARE MET." Breaking: Two Dead as Helicopter Crashes in Lagos

A plane has crashed in Lagos, Nigeria leading to the death of the pilot and one passenger. Reports say one person was rescued alive from the Quorum Aviation owned helicopter, Sahara Reporters reports. Eye witness account say the crash took place around the Salvation Bus-stop area of Lagos. The figures were confirmed by Nosa Okunbor, Head of Public Affairs of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency. Okunbor said, "There are three casualties. Two died. One resuscitated and taken to the hospital."
