Boko Haram attacks Geidam, Hometown of Acting IGP

Geidam, Yobe State hometown of the Acting Police Inspector General Usman Baba Alkali, came under attack last night from terror sect, Boko Haram, sending residents scampering for their lives. Soldiers deployed in the town responded with fire. Some of the terrorists set shops ablaze. Details were sketchy at press time. But the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack and said an Air Force jet had been sent to provide assist for the ground troops.   Source: The Nation

BBOG Releases Names of 112 Chibok Schoolgirls Still Held Captive

The Bring Back Our Girls movement has released a list bearing the names of all the girls still held captive by the terror group, Boko Haram after their kidnap on April 14, 2014. The list was released by the Lagos chapter of BBOG during a sit-out in Ikoyi to mark the seventh anniversary of the kidnap, Punch reports. Lear Sharibu along with 275 other girls were abducted from their school while preparing for final year examinations. After seven years, 164 were said to have regained freedom. OPC, IPOB Similar to Boko Haram – Dambazau

The erstwhile Minister of Interior, Lieutenant-General Abdul-Rahman Dambazau (rtd), has compared the O’odua People’s Congress, OPC, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to Boko Haram, noting that they are all extremists. He disclosed this on Friday at the Army War College in Abuja while delivering a lecture to participants of course 5/2021. Nigerian Air Force Reacts to Boko Haram’s Claim of Shooting Down Alpha Jet

The Nigerian Air Force has debunked claims by Boko Haram terrorists that it shot down the missing NAF 476 Alpha Jet, which remains uncounted for after it went off the radar in Borno State. Reacting to Boko Haram’ claim, the NAF on Saturday stated that the jet had an accident for several reasons, which the military was investigating and was not shot down as shown in the video. It said the video was doctored by the Boko Haram sect. A United States-based group, US-Nigeria Law Group, has bemoaned the plight of abandoned Dapchi brave Christian, Leah Sharibu, who is held captive by Boko Haram insurgents for three years and five weeks, reporting she has given birth to a second child in captivity. The North-Easter part of Nigeria needs fresh $1 billion to tackle the Boko Haram-induced humanitarian crisis affecting more than six million people in 2021, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has said. It disclosed this on Wednesday noting that a combination of escalating conflict, displacement, and disruption has impacted livelihoods worsened by COVID-19 restrictions resulting in hunger for at least 5.1 million people. Boko Haram Claims Responsibility for Kidnapping Students in Katsina

The Leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau has claimed responsibility for the abduction of about 333 students in Katsina State last week. Shekau in an audiotape released on Tuesday said, “Our brothers were behind the abduction in Katsina,” Guardian reports. A group of men wielding sophisticated rifles on Friday night invaded the all-boys Government Science secondary school in the town of Kankara, abducting over 300 students. United Nations (UN) Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, on Wednesday condemned Boko Haram’s murder of rice farmers in Borno State.   The convoy of Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, was involved in a fresh attack on Sunday morning around Baga. The fresh attack which did not record any death, happened when the governor and his convoy were returning to Maiduguri. This latest attack is coming two days after the governor was involved in a similar attack on Friday which led to several casualties.
