Pantami Not Qualified To Be A Professor – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi State, has faulted the appointment of Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, as a Professor of Cyber Security by the Governing Council and the management of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). The association maintained it was not convinced that due processes were followed in the appointment. ATBU is Pantami’s alma mater where he started his career as a lecturer. ASUU Threatens Strike Over Non-Payment of Salaries, Remittance of Check Off Dues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), has threatened to go on strike again over the ‘blatant’ refusal of the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris to pay the salaries and remittance of check-off dues of over 1000 staff for 13 months. The ASUU chairman, University of Jos, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, who raised the alarm in a press statement made available to reporters in Jos, accused the AGF of fanning the ember of discord between the federal government and the Union, which may lead to another round of strike action that may spell doom for the education sector. FG Withholds Salaries of Academics, Expects to be Begged – ASUU Says as it Threatens Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has urged the Federal Government to implement the agreements reached before the suspension of its 10-month strike to avert a further strike by the union. The union lamented that the government was yet to pay some of its members in several universities, with arrears ranging between three and 14 months being owed. The President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed these in an interview with SundayPunch. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned that its members might be forced to withdraw from work over what it termed the victimization of its members. The union blamed the Federal Government, as well as the Accountant General of the Federation, over refusal to pay its members’ salaries despite the ‘no victimisation clause’ of the suspended strike, Punch reports. ASUU Commences Consultation with Members

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has started consultations with all of its members to confirm the status of the industrial action. According to The Nation, the National President of the union, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi confirmed this in an interview. Ogunyemi said: “We are consulting with our organs.
