ASUU Demands ₦1 Trillion From FG To Suspend Ongoing Strike

Ongoing industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is seen by some as one of the reasons people patronize private universities, as lecturers there are not members of the union and would not go on strike. Meanwhile, another set of people not participating in the strike are lecturers in some state universities and those in universities not yet unionised. On their part, newly-established public universities are given observer status for some years before being admitted into ASUU. Nigeria has 49 federal universities, 54 owned by state governments and 109 private ones. Federal universities are currently on strike while some state-owned are not part of the strike, the reason being that some major demands by ASUU are peculiar only to feder...

The union maintained that the government treats lecturers like slaves because of poor policies formulated and implemented in the education sector. ASUU Chairman at the University of Ibadan, Professor Ayo Akinwole made these disclosures in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Ibadan on Sunday. The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Nnenna Oti, has said the management had gone to court over the rejection of Dr. Isah Ibrahim Pantami’s promotion to the rank as a professor of Cyber Security by the institution. Oti told newsmen yesterday that the management went to court on the matter, saying any comment or discussion on it is subjudice. FG Begging For Strike – ASUU, Nsukka Zone

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Nsukka zone (ASUU – Nsukka zone) has declared that the Federal Government (FG) is begging for nationwide strike action by the way it was handling the Memorandum of Action (MOA) entered into with the Union in December, 2020. The Zonal Coordinator, ASUU-Nsukka zone, Raphael Amokaha who disclosed this at a press conference held at the Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi on Thursday observed that if the situation was not properly handled, it may lead to another ASUU strike.
