CAF Awards: Oshoala Wins Record Fifth Player Of The Year Award

Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons of Nigeria striker has won a record fifth female Player of the Year at the CAF awards held in Morocco on Thursday.

Sadio Mane of Senegal also retained his award as the best male player of the year after helping Senegal to win the African Cup of Nations and his exploits with his former club, Liverpool of England. He last won the award in the 2019 edition, which was the last time the award event was organised.

Mane clinched the award of his compatriot, Édouard Mendy, and former Liverpool teammate, Mohamed Salah.

Oshoala who plays for Barcelona female team broke the record set by former Nigerian international, Perpetual Nkwocha. Oshoala saw off competition from Ajara Nchout Njoya of Cameroon and Inter Milan and Zambia’s Grace Chanda who plays for BIIK Kazygurt.

The National Team of the Year for women is expected to be announced on 23 July 2022 during the final match of the Women’s AFCON.
