Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a hat-trick as Arsenal beat Leeds 4-2 at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.

The match was Aubameyang’s first start in nearly a month after he had been quarantined after he travelled to see his mother who is ill.

Prior to the match, the striker had managed five league goals throughout the season for the Gunners, but he utilised the match to notch his first Premier League hat-trick.

The Gabonese forward scored his first goal with an admirable ow finish on 13 minutes that bettered Ilan Meslier, on a day to forget for the young French goalkeeper.

The Gunners then had a penalty overruled after a VAR review when Bukayo Saka went down under a challenge from Liam Cooper.

Shortly after, Saka was fouled again in the box by Meslier after he was caught in possession.

Aubameyang stepped forward to convert the spot-kick before Hector Bellerin’s powerful strike beat Meslier at his near post to make it 3-0 before half-time.

The forward completed his hat-trick two minutes into the second half to make it 4-0 with a header at the back post from Emile Smith Rowe’s cross.

The visitors, however, didn’t stop searching for a way back into the contest as Raphinha forced Bernd Leno into a flying save and then dragged another good opening wide.

The attacking play of Leeds paid off just before the hour mark when Raphinha’s corner was powered home by Pascal Struijk.

Leeds had hope of staging a comeback when substitutes Tyler Roberts and Helder Costa combined for the latter to cut the deficit to two goals.

The match came just a little over decade after Arsenal famously blew a 4-0 lead to draw 4-4 with Newcastle.

History didn’t repeat itself as Mikel Arteta’s men twice came closest to extending their lead through Aubameyang and Saka strikes.

The win saw Arsenal leapfrog Leeds in the table into 10th, but they are still six points adrift of their target of a top-four finish.
