The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Governing Council has appointed Professor Theophilus Soyombo as the Vice Chancellor (VC) in acting capacity.
This development was announced by Registrar/Secretary to the Council, Oladejo Azeez who said the appointment was made at a meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
Azeez dismissed claims by Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe that he remains substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Earlier, the Dr Wale Babalakin, SAN headed Council had announced the dismissal of Ogundipe on Wednesday as the VC of UNILAG.
The dismissal was a result of a long standoff between Babalakin and Ogundipe which prompted the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter of the institutuion to declare Babalakin an unwanted visitor to the University.
It prompted the Council to move its sitting to Abuja, the country’s capital
