Ebonyi state Governor David Umahi has revealed that he tested positive for dreaded COVID-19 as Nigeria nears 28,000 confirmed coronavirus cases.
This was confirmed in a statement personally signed by Umahi on Saturday.
Umahi disclosed that he tested positive alongside some of his close associates after undergoing the test recently.
He said that they are asymptomatic but have followed Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocol by isolating to avoid spreading the virus.
The Governor revealed that he has handed over executive powers to his Deputy, Kelechi Igwe to lead the state’s systematic battle against the prevalence of the virus in Ebonyi state and ensure safety of its residents.
He urged all residents of the state to abide by the NCDC safety protocols by intensifying effort at ensuring proper hygiene and keeping physical distance. He equally said he would henceforth work from home and conduct meetings virtually.
