Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State Orders Flogging of Civil Servants for Late Coming (video)

Governor Dave Umahi, today ordered the flogging of civil servants who came late to work. This was seen in a video shared in Twitter by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu. In the tweet, the Prof said " So, today in Ebonyi, @GovDaveUmahi went for a project inspection & then instructs the soldiers to flog - yes flog! - civil servants who arrived late. Ebonyi State Government Denies Disrupting Rally of Obi’s Supporters

The Government of Ebonyi State has denied ordering the police to disrupt the rally in Abakaliki organised by supporters of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday. Obi supporters had prepared and gathered for a one-million-man march at the People’s Club area of the Town when Policemen arrived in vans and teargassed them as the rally was about to begin. In his reaction Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN,, said the judgment cannot stand the scrutiny of the Appeal Court. “I am of the firm belief that the judgment, shredded of all legal and factual details, cannot stand the acid test of constitutionalism, nor pass the furnace of appellate courts scrutiny. This is because the tenure of office of a Governor and his Deputy are constitutional matters. The judgment is said to have sacked Governor David Umahi and his Deputy, Eric Kelechi Igwe from their offices. Policeman Killed in Ebonyi Explosion

Police in Ebonyi have debunked reports that the man killed in an explosion yesterday in Afikpo area of the state was a suicide bomber. Spokesperson Loveth Odah said the victim of the blast was a police inspector on duty in the area. She said the deceased, Idi Aminu, a  riot police officer, died as a result of accidental grenade explosion. The incident occurred about midday opposite Amaizi Amangbala Primary School. Residents said he was a suicide bomber trying to enter the primary school. “He mistakenly hit the head of his grenade which was hanging on his waist with his elbow, resulting in the deadly explosion,” she said, stressing that the officer was not a suicide bomber as was bandied about in the social media. Governor Umahi Dissolves State Varsity’s Governing Council

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has dissolved the Governing Councils of the State University and College of Education. The Boards are headed by Franklin Ogbuewu and a former Minister of State for Health, Fidelis Nwankwo. Umahi also sacked 16 more aides from various local governments. Breaking: Violence Erupts in Abakaliki

Abakaliki, the state capital of Ebonyi State has once again erupted in violence as gunshots rent the air in major parts of the city. The violence which began around 3pm caused panic in the city as residents scampered for safety. It was unclear where the gunshots were coming from or who was firing but reports circulating online said the Central Police Station Onuebonyi has been set ablaze by suspected hoodlums. Police and other security agencies were also reported to be engaging the hoodlums in a gun duel at the time of filling the report.

Ebonyi state Governor David Umahi has revealed that he tested positive for dreaded COVID-19 as Nigeria nears 28,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. This was confirmed in a statement personally signed by Umahi on Saturday. Umahi disclosed that he tested positive alongside some of his close associates after undergoing the test recently. He said that they are asymptomatic but have followed Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocol by isolating to avoid spreading the virus.
