Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State has pardoned Nollywood actress, Mrs Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bello, who were both arrested and detained over breach of COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
Sanwo-Olu also granted state pardon to 56 inmates from different prisons in the state.
This was disclosed by Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State.
Onigbanjo said the decision was reached based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, under the powers granted by Section 212 (1) & (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
The Attorney-General through a statement issued by Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Mr Kayode Oyekanmi, said the release of the inmates were recommended by the Advisory Council after examination of their case files, considering the length of time served, gravity of offence, old age and sickness among other yardsticks.
Onigbanjo urged the freed inmates to be well behaved and stay away from vices capable of jeopardizing their freedom.
