Tunisia has banned the ships of French transport company Corsica Linea from docking on its shores as crew test positive for COVID-19.
Habib Ghedira, member of Tunisia’s committee to confront the COVID-19 was quoted by Mosaique FM radio on Saturday to have said that that the decision was taken by government to preempt spread of the disease in the North African country.
This came after many crew members of a ship belonging to Corsica Linea company, which operated the Marseille-Tunis route from July 1 to July 10, tested positive for COVID-19.
In addition, on July 14, another vessel of the same company that docked in the port of La Goulette in Tunis had eight people who tested positive for COVID-19.
Tunisian Health Ministry asked thousands of people who were on board the two ships during the period to adopt self-isolation at home to avoid transmission of the virus.
Tunisian Transport Ministry has reacted on Tuesday by asking the French company to suspend its operations to Tunisia until the safety of the crew is confirmed.
