WAEC Releases Results, Withholds Results of 215,149 Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Monday released the 2020 SSCE results. It also disclosed that it has withheld the results of 215, 149 candidates who wrote the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Nigeria. The council said the results of the candidates are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice. Patrick Areghan, head of WAEC Nigeria, broke the news at a briefing in Lagos on Monday morning while announcing the official release of this year’s WASSCE results. Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development said that even though the Federal Government had the option to shut down the social media space to quell the #EndSARS protests that took place last month, it chose to allow the freedom of expression. Youth Investment Fund: Beneficiaries to be Given N250,000 – N5m – Finance Minister

The Federal Government has said that beneficiaries of the N75bn Nigeria Youth Intervention Fund (NYIF) will be given between N250,000 to N5m. This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed on Saturday. Ahmed had previously noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration created a youth fund of N25bn as part of measures to tackle the #EndSARS protests and other related youth agitations in the country. The minister stated that the Federal Government would increase the fund to N75bn within a three years period. WAEC to Release 2020 SSCE Results on Monday November 2nd 2020

The West African Examinations Council has disclosed that the results of the 2020 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination would be released on Monday, November 2, 2020. While giving an update on Sunday, WAEC tweeted, “This is to inform candidates that sat West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2020 that the results of that exam will be released by @waecnigeria tomorrow, Monday, November 2, 2020 by 10:30am.”

Police Release 11-year-old Boy Detained for Alleged Involvement in Edo Police Attack

The Police force in Edo State has freed an 11-year-old boy identified as Gift Osayuhi who was arrested last week over alleged involvement in the attack of a police station in the state. Osayuhi was arrested for taking part in the attack of Oba Market Police Station at Evbuotubu area of Benin City by hoodlums. He was accused to have put on the uniform of a police sergeant and proclaimed the Inspector-General of Police after the attack on the police station. Seven Men Remanded by Court for Gang-raping Minor to Death

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ebute Meta Lagos, on Friday, ordered seven men who allegedly gang-raped a minor to death, be remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre. The police charged Ajom Tabi, 37; Omobolanle Olowookere, 41; Aliu Bilyamin, 24; Emmanuel Okon, 24; Bolarinwa Olamilekan, 24; Badmus Abdulateef, 20; Azeez Quadri, 22; and Sunday Odunayo, 22 with three counts of rape, murder and defilement. Chief Magistrate O.G. Oghre did not take the plea of the suspects pending legal advice. The magistrate admitted the second suspect Olowookere to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties each in like sum after her counsel, Spurgeon Ataene, told the court of her non- involvement in the case. Ondo State Governor Lifts 24-Hour Curfew, Calls for Peace

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has announced the suspension of the 24-hour curfew initially imposed following unrest occasioned by hijack of the #EndSARS movement by hoodlums in the state. Irate thugs had taken over the movement against police brutality and extrajudicial killings by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
