Why Onuachu was Placed on standby – Rohr

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr during a media parley in Lagos clarified several issues in the national team, ahead of their AFCON qualifiers versus Benin and Lesotho. On the Super Eagles vs Benin Republic match, he said: Everyone wants to beat Nigeria, it is normal. We also want to win there (Porto Novo), so it’s a big challenge because they’ve not lost a match at home in eight years. You should expect a team (Eagles) that wants to play good football first, who are going to show Nigerians that they are fighting for their country and are able to do well in Porto Novo against the team who haven’t lost a game at home, since losing 3-1 to Algeria in a World Cup qualifier in 2013. It’s a huge challenge for us to go and try to win, knowing a point will earn us qualification. We’ve had a go...

God makes no Mistakes, I deserved Grammy – Burna Boy

Nigerian singer Burnaboy has disclosed that he was relieved when he was announced as the winner of the best global music album award at the Grammys. He also maintained that he deserved to win the prestigious award. In an interview with BBC Africa, he said, “I felt very relieved because I deserved it. If I did not get it, I was hoping a situation would not happen where I would not get what I deserved. In 2012, I realised that it was bigger than me and that was when it hit me that this was not a hobby anymore. Anything is possible. Whatever situation or environment one finds oneself does not really determine one’s future or what one is going to do. It also does not stop one from pursuing one’s dreams. At the end of the day, we are in an environment that is very discouraging. An environmen...

Hopefully I get to play in my preferred position.” The versatile winger did not specify whether he was referring to club or country. Ancelotti rarely criticises his players in public but has been bemused by Iwobi’s comment. The Everton manager, who has played the £34m signing in several roles, cited Andrea Pirlo as an example of the benefits of more open communication. “I read the post. I want to speak to him, o...
