WAEC Releases 2021 WASSCE Results, Withholds 11%

The West African Examinations Council has said 81.7 per cent of the candidates made credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination result. About 1,274,784 million is 81.7 per cent of the total of 1,560,261 million candidates who sat the exam. While announcing the release of the WASSCE result on Monday, the Head, Nigeria National Office, Mr Patrick Areghan, explained that there was an appreciable 16.46 per cent improvement, saying the percentage of candidates in the category in the WASSCE for school candidates, 2020 was 65.24 per cent. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has directed district managers to be prepared to shut down train stations plying Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe routes in the event that workers down tools. In an internal memo issued on Tuesday, the Managing Director of NRC, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, alerted all district managers and relevant officers of the need to protect railway assets in the event the strike goes ahead. Three African nationals were arrested in Dwarka for allegedly running a drug racket and heroin worth Rs 13 crore was seized from their possession, police said on Wednesday. Stanley Chimeize Alasonye (41), the mastermind of the drug syndicate, Henry Okolie (41) and Uchechukwu Peter Igbonaju (37) were arrested with 1 kg and 300 gram of heroin, they said. Five Banks Incurred N1.4bn Fine for Forex Infractions, Others

Five top banks in Nigeria paid a total of N1.4bn as penalties to financial regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, Security Exchange Council and Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, in the first half of the year. The banks are the United Bank of Africa, Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, Guarantee Trust Bank and First City Monument Bank. This figure was arrived at from analysis of the H1 2021 financial statements of the banks obtained from their websites.
