Nigeria: Road Safety Officer Hits a G-Wagon While Drunk-Driving

A road safety officer had the misfortune of hitting a Benz G-wagon while drunk-driving. Road safety officers are usually dreaded by road users because of their eagerness to pounce on real and perceived road safety related infractions. It was therefore a shock to see one of such officials driving on the express fully drunk. It is not clear how the FRSC will handle this matter as Nigerians have been complaining about the many excesses of this body. Many times, their vehicles are not road worthy, begging the question - who watches the watcher? Nigeria: LASTMA Officer Shot Dead By Suspected F-SARS Officer

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, identified as Rotimi Adeyemo, was shot dead in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Alimosho Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday. PUNCH Metro gathered that Adeyemo, while controlling traffic at the Iyana-Ipaja roundabout, stopped a motorist, who was alleged to be an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, for violating a traffic rule, but the motorist, who was apparently annoyed by the action of the LASTMA official, allegedly brought out a gun from his vehicle and shot the official dead. Gold worth about N211 million was prevented from being transported out of the country illegally by the EFCC at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos State. Commenting on the issue, the acting head of EFCC's Media and Publicity, Mr Tony Orilade, said "following intelligence reports, the operatives on November 9, 2018, uncovered the gold weighing about 35kg just at the point of departure of a suspect currently in the EFCC’s custody." Following the hijack of a bus with about 20 passengers on Wednesday, the troops of 192 Battalion of 26 Task Force Brigade of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force on Thursday raided a Boko Haram camp suspected to be the base of the attackers. During the attack, about 14 terrorists were killed and about 21 captives rescued. The 21 persons rescued included 4 men, 6 women and 11 children. About 20 people have been abducted by Boko Haram terrorists when their bus was hijacked at Maiduguri, Borno State on Wednesday. According to reports, the hijacked bus had about 20 persons on board.
