Kagara Abduction: Govt Plans to Swap Schoolchildren for Arrested Bandits

Speculations are rife that the government might cave into releasing some arrested bandits as part of the deal to secure the release of 27 pupils and 15 workers of Government Science College, Kagara, in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. Reports on Friday say the bandits that perpetrated the abduction of the schoolchildren on Wednesday are demanding for the release of their gang members in custody of security agencies as a swap deal to free the abductees, Punch reports. The bandits had raided the school in military uniform around 2am on Wednesday, and captured their victims while killing a Senior Secondary School 3 student who raised the alarm in the process. They took their victims to a nearby spot around Attahiru Secondary School where they had reportedly parked their...

Fani-Kayode Visits Igboho, Advocates for Gun Right

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said Nigerians should be licensed to carry AK-47 to defend themselves if herdsmen are permitted to wield the same type of weapon for their safety. He disclosed this on Thursday when he visited Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, at his Ibadan home. Fani-Kayode, however, said the best approach to suppress insecurity confronting the country was for the government to rise up to its responsibility to defend the people. He added that alternatively, the government should permit Nigerians to bear arms. The opposition leader said since the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd), also urged Nigerians to defend themselves against kidnappers and killers, they should be allowed...

President Buhari: The Unheralded Achievements – Femi Adesina

Let me give due credit for the idea of this piece. President Muhammadu Buhari had said recently that elites in the country were not giving due accolades to his administration in terms of where it met the country, what it grapples with, and where it has been able to take the nation to, thus far. The position of Mr President was widely published by the traditional and digital media, and it became an object of debate. In the middle of it all, I received a phone call from Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise Television and Publisher of Thisday Newspapers. “Mr President says the elite have not given due credit to the administration. That means there are achievements that are not reported, underreported, or not celebrated at all. Come to Arise Television, and talk about it.” It ...
