FG Can’t Secure All Schools – Minister

The Federal Government has asked Nigerians to be vigilant to mitigate against attacks on schools and students’ abduction. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, in an interview with Punch on Monday, noting that the government cannot secure all schools across the country. Gunmen Kill Six in Osun

Some yet to be identified gunmen killed six people in the wee hours of Sunday in a village near Wasinmi, a community along Ife/Ibadan way, Osun State. Though the identities of the killers could not be obtained at the point of filing this report, police operatives, men of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, and Hunters Group of Nigeria were said to have been deployed in the bush in the area. The incident was confirmed by the Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, noting all the deceased were members of the same family, Punch reports. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has expressed sadness over the recent mass abduction of students in different parts of Nigeria. Gunmen had abducted over 300 people including students and staff of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday. National Security Adviser Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) has disclosed that the federal government is not aware of how monies meant for the purchase of arms were spent under the immediate past Service Chiefs. Gunmen abduct Female Students in Kaduna

Suspected bandits have abducted unspecified number of female students of The Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Mando area of Kaduna State. Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige confirmed the incident. He said the exact number of students abducted is unknown. “They were abducted last night, we have no details of the number of students,” ASP Jalige said. He said the Police was working with the Army to trace the kidnappers and rescue the students. Gunmen abduct Teachers, Students in Edo

Gunmen on Wednesday night invaded the National Institute of Construction Technology, Uromi, Esan Northeast Local Government Area of Edo State and abducted yet-to-be-ascertained number of teachers and students. According to a report by The Nation, the kidnappers invaded the institute on Wednesday night, amid sporadic gunshots. The development, it was gathered heightened tension in the area, with parents and guardians storming the institute to ascertain the whereabouts of their children and wards.
