CBN Introduces New Charges for USSD Services

The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced new charges for customers using the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data services. The apex bank said effective Tuesday, customers will pay a flat fee of N6.98 per transaction every time they use USSD services. It said the new charges was part of the agreement reached when banks and telecommunication operators met on Monday to discuss the N42bn debt owed mobile operators by banks. This was contained in a statement released on Tuesday and jointly signed by the apex bank’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi; and Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, Ikechukwu Adinde. Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has congratulated music stars Burna Boy and Wizkid over their victory at the Grammy Awards. In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, the Minister described the much-deserved awards as fitting rewards for the persistent hardwork of the duo. He said the awards also represented a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance of the music world. I Never Bought Abuja property from EFCC – Falana

Activist-lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has denied ownership of a property at 42, Gana Street, Maitama District in Abuja. He said there was no truth in the story that he bought the property from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The lawyer made the clarifications in a statement yesterday in Lagos, titled: “I have never bought any property from the EFCC.” Falana explained that though he initially expressed interest in the property but withdrew from it before the transaction could be completed. The Presidency on Saturday dispelled fears that President Muhammadu Buhari might have suffered a side effect from the jab of COVID-19 vaccine he received earlier in the day. The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu has disclosed that he would not react to the statement attributed to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, on the issue of insecurity in the country, saying he was not interested in engaging any person or group of persons in media war on the issue, especially the ones that concern the South-West. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 6, 2021 for the party’s zonal congresses across the six geo-political zones. A statement on Wednesday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said aspirants for the various offices are expected to submit their nomination forms by February 25, 2021. NBA President Condemns Police, Commences Efforts on Release of Lekki Toll Gate Protesters

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) said it had begun moves to secure the release of protesters who demonstrated at the Lekki toll gate as part of the #EndSARS Season 2 and #OccupyLekkiTollgate movement. NBA’s President Olumide Akpata condemned what he described as the Police’s “shocking” and “unlawful actions” against protesters and demanded their immediate release. He offered free legal representation to protesters without a lawyer.
