Opinion: ExxonMobil Should Not be Allowed to Show Contempt for the Supreme Court of Nigeria – Femi Aribisala

To Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Productivity. EXXONMOBIL Should Not be Allowed to Show Contempt for the Supreme Court of Nigeria!! The message must be sent to ExxonMobil loud and clear that, as long as it is operating within the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it must be subject to Nigerian laws. If you were to visit the Lagos headquarters of ExxonMobil (Nigeria) in Victoria Island, Lagos today, you would immediately notice that something strange is going on. You will find a number of people camped outside the building; sometimes chanting, sometimes dancing, sometimes shouting slogans. They are there 24/7; day and night. Surely, this is anomalous to the activities of an international oil company. You will also notice that there are placards hanging everywher...

Opinion: How Jonathan Fought Corruption more Effectively than Buhari Has Ever Done – Aribisala

It is necessary to remind Nigerians that the biggest institutional attacks on corruption in Nigeria came under the PDP. EFCC, ICPC and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) were all created by the PDP. Building institutions is always far better than propaganda. Goodluck Jonathan addressed the issue of corruption in this manner. He attempted to remove the big institutional corruption represented by the petroleum subsidy. But this was rejected by Nigerians at the instance of Tinubu and Buhari. As a matter of fact, Buhari maintained there was no petroleum subsidy. To quote him, he asked: “Who is subsidizing who?” Jonathan sanitised the banking system. With the introduction of the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMS), physical movement of cash in the maki...

Opinion: The Desperate Agenda of an Evil Tyrant – Femi Fani-Kayode

Much has been brewing in the circles of power of our nation in recent weeks. Permit me to share some of my findings with my readers today. The rest will come later. Key players and leaders in the international community have warned President Muhammadu Buhari not to run for a second term but he has refused to listen. That is why he was in the United Kingdom for 16 days. He was not ill and he was not getting treatment for any ailment but he was consulting with and trying to convince the representatives of various foreign governnents, including the American, British and French, that he can still run in 2019 and win. My sources have confirmed to me that those he interacted with are not convinced but he has resolved to run regardless of their skepticism. They have asked him to probe...

Opinion: Why PDP is Ten Times Better than APC – Femi Aribisala

APC is an expired drug. Nigerians now know what it means to vote against good luck. I have said time and again I am not a member of the PDP. I am saying it again. I have never been and will never be a member of any political party in Nigeria. I have also said I do not know personally, have never met or even ever spoken to President Goodluck Jonathan, although I remain as ardent in his support as I was during the 2015 election. Before you call me a liar, let me state here for the record that I finally had the privilege of speaking to President Jonathan a few weeks ago. A nice lady named Doris phoned me, pleased she was finally able to reach me. She had a simple message: President Jonathan would like to speak to me. She then gave me his phone-number. So, I finally had the opportunit...

Opinion: The Revolution Is Already Here – Femi Aribisala.

Those were the days when peace of mind could be bought with hypocritical acts of philanthropy. But that just won’t do any more. It is karma time. Many years ago, as a member of the Nigerian delegation to the Nonaligned Conference, I engaged a Nigerian vice-president in discussion on Nigerian politics. I cannot recall now the exact subject-matter, but I remember saying at some juncture: “Nigerians won’t stand for that, Sir.” The vice-president became visibly irritated: “What are they going to do?” he asked pointedly. “What can they do about it?” Powerless Nigerians What indeed can Nigerians do about the policies of our government? The official answer is: “absolutely nothing!” Nigerians are deemed powerless and are held with obvious contempt by our leaders. We never seem inclined to...

Nigeria: Fake Viral News about Buhari’s ICC Secret “Integrity” Dossier By Farooq A. Kperogi, Ph.D.

There is a viral message making the rounds in Nigerian social media circles about an alleged secret document from the International Criminal Court at the Hague, which shows that, “A top secret background check on global leaders, past and present,” found President Muhammadu Buhari to be “the only leader rated XXX1 on integrity, the highest rating globally.” Please don’t laugh. The message adds: “That's why he is the only world leader on the ICC floor to address them." The message emanated from Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives from Kano, who, I understand, granted an interview to Channels TV. One version of the message quoted Jibrin as saying, "Buhari showed me a document he brought back from ICC, Hague.” Another version quoted him as saying he asked “a top memb...

Nigeria: Have Buhari’s Children Served as Youth Corpers? – Reno Omokri

Following the revelation that Nigeria's current Finance Minister may have failed to serve in the mandatory one-year Youth Service Scheme and may have also forged an exemption certificate, Reno Omokri has asked if Buhari's own children have served in the scheme. Tweeting on the issue, he attacked the Buhari administration's attitude to the Youth Service scheme, asking among other things if the scheme was just for the masses. He raised the issue of the recently killed Youth Corp member, Ikechi Igwetu. In his tweets he said "Why is Premium Times singling out @HMKemiAdeosun? Which of President Buhari’s kids has served Nigeria through the mandatory National Youth Service Corp? It is either they are being given away in marriage to billionaires or are riding multi million power bikes of dub...

Opinion: Many Have Issues, But Few Are Roaming the Streets – Reno Omokri

I thought I had heard all there was to hear until Monday, July 2, 2018 when the Buhari Presidency came down hard on all those opposed to the administration’s cattle colony project. Speaking on a morning show on Africa Independence Television, Femi Adesina, Mr. Buhari’s spokesman said giving land for ranching is better than death! In fact, his exact words were as follows: “Ancestral attachment? You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive. If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter?” Going further, Femi Adesina opined thus: “Where you have land and you can do something, please do for peace. What will the land be used for if those who own it are dead at the end of the day?” To give some perspective, Femi is talkin...

Opinion: How Bad Does Nigeria Have to Get?

When a business becomes unprofitable and insolvent, it is put through the bankruptcy courts where it undergoes financial ‘restructuring’. This can involve de-mergers, spin-offs and other activities that show that the original enterprise was flawed and is resulting in losses for its stakeholders. How bad does Nigeria have to get before we embark on bankruptcy proceedings? How much more can we take before we ‘restructure’, de-merge, spin-off or do whatever it takes to stop this accelerating descent into medieval mediocrity that has been the case since 1966? Another election is like attempting to change management for a Horse Carriage business in the hopes that the new team will somehow achieve results against the trend towards automobiles (circa 1940s). With a situation like that...

Nigeria: Nigerians Offer N70,000 to Anyone Who Can Name a Projected Initiated and Completed by the FG in 3 Years

A Nigerian came on Twitter to offer a cash price of N20,000 to anyone who could name a project that was initiated and completed by this administration in its three years in office. The criteria was that the project must be physical and not a body language project. Other Nigerians added more cash incentives raising the total cash price to N70,000. The offer started yesterday 28th March 2018 and ends by 12 noon today 29th March 2018. As at the time of this publication, no one had been able to give any project initiated and completed by this administration in its three years of existence.
