Nigerian Army Testifies Before Lagos Panel, Claims Officers Fired Blank Bullets into the Air

Officers of the Nigerian Army on Saturday appeared before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry Inaugurated to probe the shooting of peaceful #EndSaRS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate area of Lagos State on October 20. Speaking on behalf of the Army, Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo, Commander 81 military intelligence brigade which was reported to be unit deployed to the Lekki area claimed that the military fired shots into the air and not at protesters, backing its claim with several footages of what happened at the scene, Channels reports. He added that the officers used blank bullets that contain gun powder, and unable to inflict injury to the flesh. Army Personnel Arrive Probe Venue, to Present Footage of Lekki Shootings

Army personnel attached to the 81 Division, have arrived the venue of the inquiry into the alleged shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos on October 20. The Army had submitted the names of three Lieutenant Generals and a Lieutenant Colonel who will testify before the panel in response to invitation by the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-headed Judicial Panel of Inquiry, Punch reports. Judicial Panel Turns Down LCC’s Request to Assume Control of Lekki Tollgate

The Judicial Panel of Inquiry setup to unravel the incidence that took place at Lekki toll gate area of Lagos State on October 20, 2020 has refused the request by operators of the tollgate, Lekki Concession Company (LCC), to resume activities at the tollgate. In a brief ruling on Tuesday, retired Justice Doris Okuwobi, Chairman of the panel, said the tollgate plaza would remain shut down. According to the judge, the panel might need to pay subsequent visits to the tollgate plaza after watching the video footage obtained from a surveillance camera turned in by the LCC on Tuesday.
