This contained in a statement signed by Lateef Oladimeji Salaam, Continental Head. Saying the leadership of African Youth for Development Commission (AYDEC) is seriously perturbed and has noted with disdain and hurtful amazement the recent attacks of Africans by Africans in South-Africa. According to him, the height of disgust, enmity and repugnance which some South-Africans had recently displayed...

University of Ghana Student Has Created the World’s First PedPaper

The non-profit startup Liars & Phonies is NOT a digital newspaper. Instead, it is a “pedpaper” that publishes op-eds, especially those focused on how democracy, human rights and freedoms have been violated in different countries or how political structures can be made more efficient.  It is releasing daily op-eds on its website, a classic monthly digital pedpaper and a publication of the ranking of the world’s most powerful op-eds every year. All prominent newspapers in the world publish op-eds as part of their offerings. These op-eds have a very iconic history, and no they do not mean opinion editorials as most people think. Op-eds were first introduced as a way to solicit the opinions of the public on certain social and political issues that go on in their countries. These op-eds ...

Open Letter to the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad and the Fulani Leaders by Oodua Group

The Sultan of Sokoto and Fulani Leader His Eminence Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad THE STATE OF THE NATION We write this letter to you considering your importance as the head of the Fulani people in Nigeria. You are also the head of Fulani Muslims in Nigeria. It is our hope that you will be able to share the thoughts expressed here with the 7 million Fulani people in Nigeria through your traditional means of communication. We write to honour you with this letter, given the floundering opportunities for a dialogue on the future of Nigeria, which has eluded the various ethnic groups in Nigeria and which may not enhance itself too soon. Given the drumbeats of armed violence and extremism perpetrated largely by your people, and the fleeting prospects of a national dialogue, we hope this lett...

Opinion: I Won’t Cry for Sowore by Badaiki Osighe Nabobcy

I don't expect that Sowore is not prepared to be in detention, so I'm not too worried about his loss of freedom. That goes with the territory. Being detained should be a minor inconvenience in a democracy. In the old days, a Sowore would have been made to disappear, never to be heard from again. That can't happen in today's Nigeria. The only trouble now is that the judiciary and legislature are Buhari's personal dogs. He considers court rulings as suggestions at best and advisory at worst. Yet, it was people like Sowore that worked hard with huge financial incentives to bring about a Buhari government back in 2015. They wanted Buhari to be president because they wanted  a 'strong' president. Buhari is doing what strongmen do. Just as we warned. I have no protests left in me anymore. ...

Opinion: Buhari’s Misguided Invitation of Shiites to Terrorism by Femi Aribisala

Buhari is busy importing the incendiary of Middle Eastern Sunni/Shiite conflagration into Nigeria. The decision of the Nigerian government to proscribe the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and to declare it officially as a terrorist organization is a catastrophic blunder.  In the first instance, the decision is illegal and unconstitutional.  It is a blatant infringement on the freedom of religion guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution. But even more than this, it is an open invitation to another chapter of terrorism in Nigeria.  For a country already groaning under the travails of the murderous Boko Haram and the marauding Fulani herdsmen, this is certainly unacceptable and should be avoided at all costs. Shiite slaughter In 2015, a Shiite procession impeded the con...

Nigeria: Government Outlawed Criminality of IMN, not Freedom of Worship – Presidency

Presidency says proscription of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has nothing to do with banning the larger numbers of peaceful and law abiding Shiites in the country from practicing their religion, instead it was to discourage wanton violence, murder and willful destruction of public and private property. The Presidency explains that contrary to the claim by IMN that it had been banned from practicing its religion, President Buhari's administration has not banned Shiites from observing their five daily prayers and going to Mecca to perform the Holy pilgrimage. Their position is blatantly false and deceptive. The IMN is deliberately changing the narrative in order to gain sympathy and divert the attention of the world from its terrorist activities, including attacking soldiers, ki...

Nigeria: Court Grants FG’s Request to Declare Shiite Terrorists

With the order according to Punch, the court restrained any person or group of persons from participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the IMN under any name or platform in Nigeria. Recall that this is not the first group that has been proscribed. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were last two years declared a terrorists organization owing to their modus-operandi. However, a copy of the ex parte a...
