Teachers To Enjoy New Salary Structure from January 2022 –FG

The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, says teachers will begin to enjoy the new salary structure promised by President Muhammadu Buhari, from January 2022. Nwajiuba disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at a symposium organised by the Ministry of Education. The symposium was part of activities to mark the forthcoming 2021 World Teachers Day with the theme ‘Teachers at the heart of education recovery.’ The minister, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Sonny Echono, noted that work was being concluded on the enhanced salary structure. Sit-at-home: FG Comments on Fate of South-East Students Who Missed WASSCE

The Ministry of Education has clarified the fate of candidates who missed their exams during the 2021 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) due to the sit-at-home directive issued by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, noting that they will be given another chance to write the examination. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Sonny Echono made this announcement on Monday, while monitoring some examination centres in Abuja. Echono frowned at the September 13 disruption of examination centres in the South East, particularly in Imo State. 10 Bethel Baptist Students Freed, 21 Still In Bandits’ Captive

Bandits released ten students of Bethel Baptist School in Kaduna on Saturday with 21 others still being held captive. The Vice President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (19 Northern States and Abuja) and chairman of CAN in Kaduna State, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, confirmed this to Punch on Saturday evening. He said, “10 students were released this (Saturday) evening and have reunited with their parents. UNIBEN Students Told To Resume As University Cancels ₦20,000 Registration Fee

The Senate of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, has approved the removal of N20,000 late registration fee. Recall that the registration fee led to a two-day mass protest by the students which resulted in the shutting down of the institution. The Registrar of the university, Ademola Bobola, confirming the removal in a statement said the Senate, at a virtual meeting, ratified the earlier verbal pronouncement by the Vice-Chancellor, Lilian Salami. The Senate also approved that money already paid by defaulting students be refunded as they ordered all students to resume lectures on Monday, September 20th. The Federal Government through the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the building of more schools in Yobe and other parts of the North-east. NEDC is a department of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. The Yobe government had provided land for the building of new primary and secondary schools in Potsdam, Buni Yadi (Gujba) and Gahsua (Bade) Local Government Areas. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has debunked claims that it awards preferential cut-off marks to students who sit the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination from the northern part of the country.
