Protesters who are demanding for scrapping of Special Anti-robbery Squad of the Nigerian police clashed with police operatives in Abuja on Friday. Reports say police fired teargas and shot indiscriminately in a bid to disperse the protesters in the nation’s capital. A video which surfaced online shows protesters scampering for safety. Deji Adeyanju, human rights activist, has called out singer Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley describing him as a coward for calling off planned End SARS protest that was billed to take place on Wednesday. Naira Marley today announced cancellation of the protest after persuasion from government and the Nigerian Police Force. The convoy of Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, was involved in a fresh attack on Sunday morning around Baga. The fresh attack which did not record any death, happened when the governor and his convoy were returning to Maiduguri. This latest attack is coming two days after the governor was involved in a similar attack on Friday which led to several casualties. The Nigerian Police force has vowed to “vehemently resist” students planning a massive protest in Ogun State over the recent spike in petrol price and electricity tariffs. This was made known by spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a communique on Saturday. Former Malian president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, recently deposed by mutinying soldiers was flown to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for medical attention in the late hours of Saturday, a top diplomat said. Keita, 75, was hospitalised in Mali after his release from detention by the military junta who held him for 10 days. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has claimed that 21 of its members were killed in a violent clash with security operatives and 47 others arrested in Emene, Enugu State on Sunday. The Department of State Services (DSS) has also alleged that two of its operatives were killed by members of the IPOB. The claims were made by the IPOB and SSS in separate statements on Sunday.
