The Federal Government of Nigeria said 14 airports were now accessible for domestic flight operations in the country.
Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation in a tweet on his official twitter handle said that 14 airports were now fully operational for domestic and commercial flights.
The minister said that ministerial approvals for private and charter flights in and out of the 14 airports were not required, as the public would be informed of the other airports in due course.
He disclosed that the 14 airports are: Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; and Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
Others include the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri; Maiduguri Airport, Maiduguri; Victor Attah Airport, Uyo; Kaduna Airport, Kaduna; and Yola Airport, Yola.
Sirika also listed the Margaret Ekpo Airport, Calabar; Sultan Abubakar Airport, Sokoto; Birni Kebbi Airport; Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos; and Benin Airport, Benin.
The Federal Government halted flight operations in Nigeria’s airports for about three months as a means to contain the spread of dreaded COVID-19 after the country recorded its index case in March.
The government commenced gradual reopening of the airports in July 8 when it granted permission to Lagos and Abuja airports to begin operation.
On July 15, four more airports were allowed to commence before the latest announcement of Sirika on Sunday.
Sirika said that government conducted proper inspection of the 14 airports to ensure due compliance with safety measures and operations have been approved.
