NBA President Condemns Police, Commences Efforts on Release of Lekki Toll Gate Protesters

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) said it had begun moves to secure the release of protesters who demonstrated at the Lekki toll gate as part of the #EndSARS Season 2 and #OccupyLekkiTollgate movement. NBA’s President Olumide Akpata condemned what he described as the Police’s “shocking” and “unlawful actions” against protesters and demanded their immediate release. He offered free legal representation to protesters without a lawyer. NDDC Orders Contractors Back to Site

The Interim Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), Mr. Efiong Akwa, has ordered contractors handling its projects to return to site immediately and complete their work. Akwa gave the order while inspecting  the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital, at Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. A statement signed by the commission’s Director, Corporate Affairs, Ibitoye Abosede,  said Akwa explained that the commission would not go back on the regional hospital project because of its strategic importance. He promised to pay for the milestones already achieved by the contractor to ensure the completion of the project. Tambuwal Revokes Contracts Awarded by Wamakko

Over five major contracts including that of a General Hospital in Wamakko town awarded by the former  Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji  Aliyu Wamakko were revoked by the Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s led government. Also revoked are four others located at the Murtala Muhammed Hospital as follows: two additional blocks of wards, landscaping of the hospital, construction of 47 staff quarters and that of the completion of a special work at the hospital which comprises a theatre, mortuary, laundry and others. However, Tambuwal approved three  projects for execution amounting to N4 billion. The new projects comprise of two health facilities and one for education. NBA Faults Extension of IGP’s Tenure

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has faulted the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the tenure of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu. The association has consequently sued at the Federal High Court in Lagos to compel the a reversal of the purported tenure extension. The suit, marked: FHC/L/CS/214/2021 has as defendants: the President, Federal Republic of. Nigeria; the Police Service Commission (PSC) and Mohammed Abubakar Adamu. The NBA’s contention, in the suit is that the IGP ceased to be a member of the Nigeria Police Force when he attained the milestone of thirty-five years of service. “Therefore, the President’s extension of Mr Adamu’s tenure by three months, in the NBA’s respectful view, is unconstitutional.”

No fewer than two persons reportedly lost their lives when some suspected herdsmen attacked the men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency also known as Amotekun Corps. Amotekun Arrests Truckload of Armed Fulani Herdsmen Heading To Ogun, Lagos

Officers of Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, have intercepted a truck loaded with no fewer than 80 men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the Amotekun corps  stopped the men, who were loaded in a truck, and a quick search revealed some bows, arrows and daggers in the vehicle.
