Kenya: Government Officials to Take Lie Detector Tests – Kenyatta

Top government officials in Kenya will be made to take lie detector tests in the government's bid to fight corruption in the country. While announcing this, President Uhuru Kenyatta the test will be used to ascertain the integrity of its officials. He also said this move was one of the many processes the government will put in place in the fight against corruption. He made the revelation while speaking on the issue of the 8bn Kenyan shillings (about $78m) that was reported missing from one of the government's agencies. Biafra: Sit-At-Home Order Paralysis South-East States

In celebration of this year's Biafra day on May 30th, Biafra agitators staged a sit-at-home protest which was said to have recorded about 95% compliance. The decision to stage sit-at-home protests to mark Biafra celebration day started last year as a result of the clamp down by Nigerian authorities on their non-violent street protests. According to Amnesty International, hundreds of unarmed protesters have been killed by the nation's security operatives at several peaceful protests. A video of some school girls performing at a competition wearing very skimpy outfits, has sparked serious outrage. The outfit which leaves the breasts and buttocks exposed is known as "inkciyo" and is a traditional wear of the Xhosa ethnic group, the second largest ethnic group in South Africa. Following the outrage, the choirmaster of the school said he was proud of their performance. According to him, "We are proud of our Xhosa tradition. We are proud of 'inkciyo'. Uganda: President Museveni Imposes Tax on Social Media Usage to Curb Gossip

A new law has been passed by the Ugandan parliament to impose a social media tax on its citizens. The law which is billed to take effect from 1 July will see Ugandans paying 200 shillings ($0.05) as daily levy for the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and others. While pushing for the law, President Yoweri Museveni said that the use of these social media platforms greatly increased gossip. The President said the funds that will be generated from this tax will help the government manage the effects of gossip locally known as "olugambo". Nigeria: Okada Rider’s Death Triggers Mob Attack On Police Station

An angry mob attacked the Ibeshe Police station in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Wednesday following the death of an Okada rider that morning. It was learnt that an Okada rider by the name Paul who hails from Ebonyi state died on Wednesday morning following an accident he had the night before. The Okada rider was said to have been trying to avoid a police checkpoint when he was chased by the police into the gutter. Following the accident, the Police officers were said to have taken the Okada to their station while leaving the Okada rider there in the gutter. The Okada rider was later taken to the hospital by friends and family where he died the next morning.
