Nigeria: Gov. Samuel Ortom Defects from APC

Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has defected from the APC. Ortom announced his departure from the party on Sunday at the government house while he was swearing in his new Special Adviser on Local Government and Cheftaincy Affairs, Jerome Torshimbe. According to the governor, APC had given him the red card, leaving him outside the pitch. He said "I’ve been given the red card and I’m now outside the pitch. So, if I have been given the red card and I’m standing outside, that means I’m a free man." He however did not disclose which party he was moving over to. He simply said "I don’t know what will happen next, but I’m waiting. If others approach me, then I will tell the Benue people that I’m joining another football club." Nigeria: Pst Chris Okotie Declares Intention to Contest the 2019 Presidency

Popular Nigerian Pastor, Chris Okotie has officially declared his intention to contest for the 2019 Presidency. Speaking in his Church today, he said his decision was based on the obvious need for intelligent and capable leadership in the country. He added that it was time to save the Nigerian dream from further worsening. On the issue of the party he would be contesting on, he said he had written to the ruling party APC and the main opposition party the PDP to adopt him as their candidate. He said "In sincere consideration I humbly and sincerely ask that the APC adopt me as the presidential candidate. I have extended the same gesture to the APC too. This is the time to demonstrate our love for this country."

World Cup: France Lifts the 2018 FIFA World Cup

France has won the 2018 FIFA World Cup after defeating Croatia 4:2. In a match that saw Croatia having about 61% of the ball possession, the French took the lead through an 18th minute own goal, off a Mandzukic header. Nigeria: APC’s Fayemi Wins Ekiti Gubernatorial Elections

The keenly contested battle between APC and PDP in the just concluded gubernatorial elections in Ekiti state of Nigeria has been won by the ruling party, APC. For many months before the elections, it was clear that the battle for Ekiti's government house was regarded as a do or die affair by the two leading parties. According to the returning officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, Kayode Fayemi of APC won the election with 197,459 votes while his PDP opponent, Professor Olusola Eleka got 178,121 votes. Of the 16 local government areas, APC won in 13 while PDP won in only 3. With this win, Fayemi returns to Ekiti government house for a second tenure. He had lost to Fayose after his first term which ran from 2010 to 2014.

Security operatives arrested at least five party agents who were sharing monetary incentives at different polling stations in the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti today. Some of them were arrested at Jonathan memorial School, Ajilosun in Ado Ekiti. Two gubernatorial candidates had raised alarm, accusing APC and PDP agents of openly sharing money without any intervention by security operatives. According to Bisi Omoyeni, the candidate for Mega party, people were being openly given money to vote. Croatia this evening sailed into the finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after winning England 2:1 after extra time. Despite taking an early lead through a 5th minute Trippier goal, England gave up their lead in 68th minute when Perisic stabbed in Croatia's equalizer from a cross. After the game was levelled, Croatia had more chances to bury the game, with Ivan Perisic's shot hitting the inside of the upright. Fulani Herdsmen: About 50 Killed in Fresh Attacks at Adamawa

About 50 persons have been reportedly killed in fresh attacks in Adamawa state. The attack which was reportedly carried out by armed fulani herdsmen took place in Gojefa, Bujum Yashi, Bujum Waya, Sabon layi and Bujum Kasuwa, all vilages in Numan Local Government Area of the state. Premiership champions Manchester City has finally signed Riyad Mahrez from Leicester for £60 million on a 5-year deal. This amount is about €68m or $80m. The signing finally put to rest the transfer saga that started in January which even saw the player boycotting some training sessions for his now former club.
