Oyo State federal lawmaker, Senator Teslim Folarin has said his decision not to seek redress against looters arrested in connection with carting away with multi-million-naira empowerment materials in his Ibadan residence was in consideration of the difficult economic condition that informed the recent violence in the country.
Thugs who took over the peaceful #EndSARS protests in Ibadan had broken into Folarin’s Oluyole Estate residence in Ibadan, stealing about 300 motorcycles, freezers, power generating sets and grinding machines procured for December empowerment in the lawmaker’s constituency.
Folarin who represents Oyo Central Senatorial District of Oyo State at the Senate, in an interview during a youth training in modern agriculture techniques rebuffed assumptions by many who thought that the December mega palliative distribution in his constituency would be canceled.
He said, “we are working hard to ensure that we distribute empowerment materials as planned.
“We are not interested in arresting anybody. The country is very difficult. There were two categories of people that came; first, the people that masterminded it and the passersby who saw it and resorted to looting.
“We are not trying to justify looting but let’s just hope they use it well. We are not pressing charges against those that looted the empowerment materials in my residence.”
