The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has chosen a preferred running mate for the 2023 election.
This was confirmed by a reliable source in the Tinubu Campaign organisation who chose to remain anonymous in an interaction with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Sunday.
According to the source, Tinubu will make his decision public this week.
The source said “The vice-presidential nominee may most likely be a former governor and senator from the Northeast part of Nigeria.
“The person is also by accident of birth a Muslim, confirming what Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said on Saturday that Tinubu had settled for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.”

The source added that in picking the running mate, religion was not prioritised. Instead, the competence, exposure, and intellectual depth of the candidate were paramount.
Speaking further, the source said, “The considerations given for the choice of a running mate were dictated by the need to choose an individual capable of working with the presidential candidate to take Nigeria to greater heights.’’
Tinubu is expected to visit President Muhammadu Buhari in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, on Sunday to inform him of his chosen running mate.
Tinubu who clinched the APC presidential ticket in the June 8 primary initially chose Ibrahim Kabiru Masari as his running mate (placeholder).
