The governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo has justified the demotion of the church building of popular prophet, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje.

Odumeje’s church, Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, was partly brought down on Thursday by the state task force.

Soludo in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Christian Aburime, said the building was not removed even after it was marked earlier by the authorities.

The statement explained that the church building was one of several structures marked for demolition due to being erected along the waterway, thereby preventing the free flow of water and causing flooding.

He said, “Following the expiration of the more than two months’ notice, beginning from April 2022, served on developers and building owners who built several illegal structures along the waterway in Fegge and environs within Onitsha, Anambra State Government has begun the demolition of such structures.”

The clarification was issued shortly after information about the demolition of the church building and the manhandling of the cleric by security officers went viral.

He added, “The structures were marked since April 2022 and all developers and building owners were served notice to remove such illegal structures.”

The governor noted that the church building was not the only structure affected as some shops and perimeter fences were also demolished.

Videos surfaced on social media showing security detail comprising task force members and vigilante operatives shoving and pushing the preacher.

Prof. Soludo’s statement, however, failed to comment on the manhandling of the preacher.
