Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have been paid their full salaries for the month of November 2022.
It was also confirmed that the eight-month arrears owed to the university teachers were not paid.
This was disclosed by a senior member of the union at Bayero University in an interview with Punch in Abuja on Wednesday.
The source said, “Some of our members have started receiving salaries and I can confirm to you that we received our full salaries for the month of November. However, the arrears are still withheld.”
Recall that the Federal Government had withheld the salaries of the lecturers during their strike that lasted for eight months.
The members of the union were also paid based on pro-rate (half-pay) for the month of October 2022, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, confirmed.
The lecturers were paid for the 18 working days in the month of October.
Speaking on the payment, the source said, “We were only paid for the days after the strike. I received half salary. Other members are angry right now, they are blaming the NEC for calling off the strike.”
ASUU members across the country have been protesting against the decision of the Federal Government to withhold their salaries.
Recall that ASUU suspended its eight-month-old strike on October 14, 2022.
The National Executive Council, NEC, of the ASUU is scheduled to hold a meeting in the early days of December to decide on the next line of action.
