About 21,000 police officers have been deployed for the upcoming governorship election in Osun state. The election is set to take place this Saturday 16th of July 2022.
Usman Alkali Baba, The Inspector General of Police made this known on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During the meeting, he said the arrangement was made to ensure security during the election exercise scheduled in Osun state.
“We shall be deploying a total of 21,000 police personnel for the exercise of the Osun election as part of the election security plan”

He further stated that the strategic plan was to ensure peace and order during the election process, saying that the polling units, senatorial districts, and wards were properly mapped out, with officers to be stationed there strategically.
The Inspector General also assured voters that the tight security isn’t meant to intimidate them, but to ensure the safety and protection of INEC’s officials and their facilities during and after the election.
“This deployment is not meant to intimidate any law-abiding citizens rather it is to deter misguided elements that may threaten the conduct of the election and violate the electoral act. It also serves as a strong warning that government is determined to protect the citizens.” Usman Alaki Baba said.
