The Military that launched the operation disclosed that the attack was strategized based on credible intelligence reports which revealed that the terrorist group gathered in large numbers in preparation to launch attacks around Mandara mountains in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Reports also revealed that the now deceased terrorist leader masterminded the attack on Bama town in 2014, leading to the massacre of innocent citizens before the town was declared a Boko Haram Caliphate.
The Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) fighter was believed to be under the supervision of top Boko Haram leader, Ali Ngosho, as they mounted the caves in the Mandara mountains from where they launched attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon, and Niger Republic.
