Colleagues Rally Around As Abductors of Ex-UI DVC Demand 50m

The kidnappers of Adigun Agbaje, a former deputy vice-chancellor academics of the University of Ibadan, UI, have asked for a N50 million ransom to free him. Agbaje was taken into captive on Saturday along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway after a gun duel between men of the Nigeria police and the kidnappers. NUC Orders UI Governing Council to Appoint Acting VC

Following the expiration of the tenure of the Vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed the Governing Council of varsity to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor to take over on November 30, 2020. The order became imperative following the deadlock in the appointment of a new VC to replace Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, whose tenure expires on 30 November. Professor Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary of NUC, in a letter dated 27th November 2020 and addressed to the Pro-Chancellor of the University, said the appointment of an acting vice-chancellor was to avoid a vacuum in the administration of the university.
