Boko Haram: 30 Killed in Konduga Following Multiple Suicide Bombings

Thirty people were killed late Sunday in multiple suicide bombing in northeast Nigeria, emergency services reported, in an attack bearing the hallmarks of the Boko Haram jihadist group. Three bombers detonated their explosives outside a hall in Konduga, 38 kilometres (24 miles) from the Borno state capital Maiduguri, where football fans were watching a match on TV. “The death toll from the attack has so far increased to 30. We have over 40 people injured,” Usman Kachalla, head of operations at the State Emergency Management Agency, said on Monday. An earlier toll from the blasts, the bloodiest in months, gave 17 dead and 17 wounded. The attack happened around 9:00 pm (1800 GMT), Ali Hassan, the leader of a self-defence group in the town, said. Opinion: Crisis and the Visibility of PMB by Dr. Aliyu U. Tilde

When King Edward VIII abdicated the British throne and his brother, Albert, took over as King George VI in 1937, it dawned on the new King and his wife, Princess Elizabeth Lyon, that his stammer would impede his role as a King, a position that will require him to communicate directly with his subjects whenever the need arises. She sought for him the services of Leonel Logue, whose lessons immensely improved the speech condition of the initially reluctant student. The need arose two years later in 1939 when Britain joined World War II under Winston Churchill (another stammarer) and the King needed to speak to the public. His therapy was handy because he was able to deliver his proclamation speech without the impossible hindrances of before. The British public was happy to listen to their...

Nigeria: Army of Internet Trolls Recruited to Malign Me – Ezekwesili

Oby Ezekwesili has taken to her Twitter page to call attention to the unsavory response to her protests. In her tweets, she noted that regardless of what part of the country the injustice she was protesting was happening, attempts were always made to question her motives. In her tweets she said "Here’s the thing. For me, Humanity has: No Ethnic address. No Language. No Religion nor Denomination. No Economic Status. No Political Belief. No Extras. Humanity is SIMPLY HUMANITY. My VOICE SHALL SPEAK whenever & wherever WE FAIL TO PROTECT HUMANITY. "I Protested the inaction of an administration on the KILLINGS and ABDUCTIONS in the North East, some hurled insults & impugned my “motive”. I protested the KILLINGS in the North West, an army of internet trolls were recruited to malign...

Nigeria: Miyetti Allah Thrives on Conflicts – Dr. Nura Alkali

Only the blind will insist on living a 17th century life in 2018. It is northern states that have land for cattle ranches Dr. Nura Alkali, the Chief Consultant Neurologist at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi (ATBUTH) and a Fulani man has been credited with the following statement on the Fulani Herdsmen crises. "How ironic that, today, it is the Fulani who lack leaders to guide them and pursue their interests through legal ways. Please, don't mention "Miyetti Allah", which is a cattle-breeders' association. I have never owned a cow in my life, and I don't intend to, meaning I have no business with Miyetti Allah. ("Mi Yetti Allah" means "I thank God" in Fulfulde. I'm referring to the group here, not the literal meaning). "Miyetti Allah claims to...

Nigeria: Amnesty International Blames the Government for the Increased Killings

Amnesty international has blamed the Nigerian government for the increase in the killings by herdsmen across the country. According to the body, the inaction exhibited by the government of President Buhari has encouraged the killers. According to the reports, no fewer than 1,813 had been lost this year alone to these killers across about 17 states. This is more than two times the 984 death toll recorded in 2017. While addressing this issue, Amnesty International in its report said "We are gravely concerned about the rising spate of killings across the country, especially the communal clashes between farmers and herders and attacks by bandits across at least 17 states. "The authorities have a responsibility to protect lives and properties, but they are clearly not doing enough goin...

Nigeria: Plateau and PDP’s Crocodile Tears – Presidency

The sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau State over the weekend have been turned to opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which says it is declaring seven days of mourning. These are dolorous times that call for deep introspection on how cheap human lives have become, and the proffering of actionable ideas on how to get out of the bind. But the PDP would rather dance on the graves of the dead, playing cheap, infantile politics. The comatose and prostrate party is declaring seven days of mourning, during which flags in its offices would be flown at half mast nationwide. But unknown to the party, those flags had been forcefully lowered since its 2015 loss at the polls, and may remain so for a long time to come, bec...
