JUST IN: Igboho Remanded, Wife Released as Beninese Court Adjourns Hearing

Embattled Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has been remanded at Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou till Monday July 26. But Ropo, his wife, a German citizen, was released and the judge ordered return of her passport. Igboho, was arraigned before the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou on immigration-related offences by the government of the Benin Republic. The Nation reports Igboho and his wife have been in custody since their arrest at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou as they attempted to board a flight to Germany on Monday. They were interrogated by Beninese security operatives at the Brigade Criminelle facility between Wednesday and Thursday.

Why Sunday Igboho Escaped During House Raid – DSS

The Department of State Services has said Yoruba rights activist Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho escaped when the secret police raided his Ibadan residence because there was a gun duel between DSS operatives and Igboho’s guards which lasted for an hour. The DSS also paraded 12 of Igboho’s followers in Abuja on Thursday, saying one other was being profiled. The DSS said a joint team of security operatives had raided Igboho’s residence early on Thursday based on an intelligence report. A Yoruba rights activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (popularly called Sunday Igboho) has said he and those who believe in his cause will always defend the Yoruba race from aggressors.
