CAF Disburses CFA120 million to Member States Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

African football governing body has followed the footsteps of FIFA in disbursing funds to member states to assist in the fight against Corona virus. CAF issued out cheques to representatives of member associations. The continental football governing body will also release an additional 6,393 million CFA francs that will see each federation receiving up to 120 million as subsidy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Football in Africa had been halted in March to curb the growing spread of COVID-19. While some leagues have been nullified, others are trailed by uncertainty and will be hoping on CAF and their federations to decide their fate. (Source:Africa news.com)

Lagos Sports Summer Camp Holds from August 31

The Lagos State maiden multi-sports camp for children between ages 9 and 16, tagged "Lagos Sports Summer Camp", will kick-off at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Saturday, 31st August 2019. According to the Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, the Sports Summer Camp will be an avenue to train students across the five divisions of Lagos State. The six-day sporting event, holding from 31st August to 5th September 2019, is aimed at exposing the participants to some sports which include Athletics,  Table-Tennis, Basketball, Taekwondo, Judo, Swimming, Squash and Volleyball. The Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC, has conducted screening for all Athletes who will represent the State at the forthcoming Fifth National Youth Games holding in Ilorin, Kwara State from 7th to 17th September 2019. The exercise, which took place inside the main bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium and conducted by LSSC and some of the Sports Associations’ Officials, was embarked upon to ensure that only eligible athletes from Lagos participate in the multi-games competition. Several athletes arriving in Nigeria to take part in the Africa Senior Athletic Championship are stranded at Murtala Muhammad Airport in the main city of Lagos and at Asaba airport, 500km south of the capital, Abuja. The games officially start on Wednesday in Asaba, Delta state, but the news ahead of the event has been dominated by the travel mishap. Participants from Burundi, Kenya, Eritrea and Burkina Faso, remain stranded at the airport in Lagos. Some lucky athletes, who managed to bypass the travel problems, have been training at the event's venue. At least 52 teams confirmed participation at the event. Assistant coach of the Super Eagles and current coach of the Nigerian team to the 2020 Olympics was caught on camera taking bribe to feature certain players. The Video which was Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas showed Yusuf being paid about $1000 with a promise of more financial incentives should the players be selected. Salisu Yusuf currently earns about N3 Million monthly which amounts to about $8,300.
