Oshoala Undergoes Surgery

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has been ruled out of action for some time due to injury, her Spanish club Barcelona have confirmed. The surgery was to correct the defect on her right foot. “The player had been suffering from discomfort for a few weeks, which had caused her to miss a game, such as the one at Santa Teresa. The intervention was given by Dr. Dalmau, under the supervision of the Medical Services of FC Barcelona. “The evolution of the player will mark her return to the field of play,” the club said in a statement. Oshoala last featured for Barcelona Femino in their UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Manchester City last week.

2022 World Cup: Super Eagles Confirm Qualifying Dates

The dates for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been confirmed. The Super Eagles media officer, Babfemi Raji, confirmed the dates for the qualifiers which commence in June 2020. Nigeria is drawn in Group C, alongside Cape Verde, Liberia and the Central Africa Republic. The three-time AFCON winners will begin the qualifiers with a home fixture against Liberia which is fixed between 5 – 8 June. Their next qualifier is an away tie against Cape Verde with the date set for 11 – 14 June. The Eagles will host the Central Africa Republic on matchday three and the date is set for 1 – 4 September while the reverse fixture which will be in Central Africa Republic will be 5 -7 September. The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has expressed delight with the performance of Super Eagles and Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, describing him as a joy to watch. The striker has been in sublime form in recent times for both club and country, scoring a hat-trick against Sheffield United and a brace in the FA Cup win against Manchester United. Iheanacho’s sparkling form culminated in a Premier League Player of the Month award for March. Iwobi Savours Super Eagles Win Against Lesotho

Super Eagles winger, Alex Iwobi has expressed delight over the team’s 3-0 triumph against Lesotho in their last game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. The three-time African champions topped the qualifiers with an unbeaten record, garnering four wins and two draws. The Nigerian side saw recorded a comprehensive win against the Crocodiles through goals from Victor Osimhen, Oghenekaro Etebo and Paul Onuachu. Iwobi who made a comeback after missing the last match after testing positive for COVID-10 took to social media to celebrate the win. He tweeted, “Qualified & Unbeaten #YaaDigg 🤟🏽🇳🇬.” The Everton winger scored three goals in five appearances for the Super Eagles in the qualifiers.

CAF Okays Iwobi For Super Eagles Vs Lesotho

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has given approval for Alex Iwobi to featured in today’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos State. Iwobi was reported to have returned a positive COVID-19 test result prior to Saturday’s match against Benin Republic in Port Novo. It forced the Everton forward to sit out the encounter in which the Super Eagles won 1-0 through a Paul Onuachu stoppage-time goal. However, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF on Tuesday morning, stated that after further tests were conducted the result came out negative. Iwobi can now feature against the Crocodiles after CAF’s approval. The NFF tweeted on Twitter, “Update: CAF clears @alexiwobi to play today’s game against Lesotho.”

The Lesotho national football team will arrive in Nigeria on Monday morning ahead of Tuesday’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria. African News Today gathered that the match commissioner and referees had arrived Nigeria on Sunday, while the security officer and referees’ assessor arrived in Lagos on Saturday. Lesotho played a barren draw with Sierra Leone in Maseru on Saturday but have missed out on a place for the finals in Cameroon. The Lesotho team is scheduled to train at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Monday evening by 5 pm.

Cape Verde Referee Duarte To Officiate Nigeria, Lesotho AFCON Qualifier

The Confederation of African Football has picked Cape Verde referee Fabricio Duarte to take charge of Tuesday’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations dead rubber game against the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun stadium. Duarte will be assisted by his compatriots Jorge Correia Semedo Helio (assistant 1), Delgado Fernandes Wilson Jorge (assistant referee 2) and Antonio Manuel Fortes Tony Rodrigues (fourth official) will also be on duty.
