El-Rufai Urges To FG Declare Bandits As Terrorists

The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has asked the Federal Government to declare bandits in the North-West geo-political zone of the country as “insurgents.” The declaration, the governor said, would able the Nigerian military to attack and kill “these bandits without any major consequences in the international law.” The governor who spoke shortly after receiving the third quarter security report from the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna on Wednesday, also said the recruitment of 1,000 youths each across the 774 local government areas of the country would deal a deadly blow to bandits and other criminal elements in the land. Backing the National Assembly’s resolution to declare bandits as ter...

Airforce Denies Payment To Bandits For Return Of Anti-Aircraft Weapon

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has debunked news reports circulating on some media platforms alleging that the NAF, through one of its personnel, paid the sum of N20 Million to armed bandits operating in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State in exchange for an anti-aircraft gun allegedly seized. The report went on to state that the reason behind the payment was to retrieve the anti-aircraft gun which, it alleged, the NAF feared could be used against aircraft operating within Katsina State. This was contained in a statement released by Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force. The statement reads: The NAF wishes to categorically state that there is absolutely no iota of truth in the spurious allegation that was undoub...

Lagos Police Make U-turn, Approve #EndSARS Protests, Frown On Road Closures

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has made a U-turn on its earlier warning against any gathering or organisation of protest in commemoration of the first anniversary of last year's #EndSARS protest in the state. Addressing journalists on Saturday while monitoring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state congress election in Lagos, Odumosu described protests as a right citizens are entitled to. He added that the state police command would be ready to protect protesters. Meanwhile, an earlier statement by the Lagos Police Command had said, “The police in the state will not fold their arms and allow some misguided elements disrupt the peace and serenity currently being enjoyed in the state. “To forestall breakdown of law and order, the police will use all leg...

Nigeria’s Electoral Body, INEC Rules Out Dialogue With IPOB, ESN

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has ruled out the possibility of engaging the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network, ESN ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State. The commission noted that it wouldn’t go out of its way to engage IPOB and ESN that had been outlawed by the Muhammadu Buhari regime. The INEC spokesman, Festus Okoye, made this known during an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, noting that the commission had been engaging stakeholders including security agencies, civil society organizations and other relevant bodies. “We recognize political parties, we recognize the people of Anambra State, we recognize civil society groups and organizations, we recognize traditional institutions and the clergy. So...

Insecurity: Zambia Ready To Assist Nigeria, Says Envoy

The Government of Zambia on Tuesday expressed concern over the insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges in the country saying they would help Nigeria. Zambia said it would help Nigeria because the country played a significant role in liberating most Southern African countries against the apartheid regimes. The Zambian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Sọlọmọn Samuel Jere, stated this during a press conference to herald an international peace concert organised by the Seventh Day Adventist Church with the theme, “Hope in troubled times”, scheduled for this Saturday. The envoy said Zambia was ready to “share intelligence with Nigeria in areas of comparative advantage” to help fight crimes as no meaningful development would be achieved by any country without peace. He said...

Chiwetalu Was Released As Nothing Incriminating Was On His Phone – Ozekhome

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), has said that the Department of State Services released veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, after a rigorous search of his phones. According to the lawyer, the secret police didn’t find anything incriminating on the actor’s phones. Ozekhome made this revelation in a statement on Tuesday shortly after the secret police released the actor from its headquarters in Abuja. It was earlier reported that Agu was arrested last Thursday by the Nigerian Army in Anambra State for allegedly wearing Biafran colors, associating with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, and for inciting members of the public. The Army later transferred the actor to the DSS on Friday and he was flown to the headquarters of the secret police in Abuja where h...

CP Hakeem Odumosu Warns Against Any Form Of Protest In The State

Credible intelligence at the disposal of the Command has revealed clandestine plans by some youths, individuals or groups to embark on protest today in commemoration of one year anniversary of ENDSARS. Lagosian and indeed Nigerians cannot afford to relive the distasteful experience of last year protest which caused pain, anguish, needless loss of lives and wanton destruction of public and private property. In view of the volatility of the present situations in the country, and the breakdown of law and order which the planned protest might cause, the Lagos State Police Command sternly warns against any form of protest today.
