There have been interesting intrigues emanating from Edo state, Nigeria as the state prepares for its forthcoming governorship election slated for 19 September, 2020. On Friday 12 June, news broke of the disqualification of incumbent governor of the state- Godwin Obaseki from contesting the primary election of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). Though it was strange, but it was not totally unexpected given the cold war that has lingered between the governor and his predecessor- Adams Oshiomhole. Breaking: APC Committee Disqualifies Governor Obaseki from Contesting Primary Election

The screening committee set up by the All Progressive Congress (APC) has disqualified incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki from contesting the party’s forthcoming primary election. The chairman of the screening panel- Jonathan Ayuba disclosed this update during presentation of their report to the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Friday. The committee screened six aspirants which included Obaseki, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Pius Odubu, chris Ogiemwonyi, Osaro Obazee and Mathew Iduoriyekemwen. Ayuba disclosed three aspirants were cleared for the primary on 22 June while two other candidates were disqualified alongside Obaseki. Zimbabwe’s Home affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe has rebuffed rumours of a coup d’etat being hatched. He made the address on behalf of the Working National Security Council at Munhumutapa building, Harare. The council reiterated the commitment of the country’s armed forces which they described as “loyal, professional and dedicated to their constitutional mandate”. The council blamed the rumour on former members of the ruling ZANU-PF, some mischief makers in the military and members of the opposition. Tanzania has conquered the scourge of coronavirus. This was declared by President John Mogufuli in a church service in the capital, Dodoma on Sunday. President Mogafuli attributed the victory to prayers by citizens. According to him, the disease has been defeated thanks to God. Trial of Lamin Diack for Doping Allegation Billed for Monday

Former chief of IAAF Lamin Diack is set to be tried in Paris on Monday for alleged crime of corruption and money laundering related to a Russian doping scandal. Diack faces trial on account of alleged 3.5 million euros bribe from athletes. The athletes are thought to have bribed their way towards participation at athletics competitions, especially 2012 London Olympics in England. The 87 years old has quashed involvement in the accusations. His counsels haver insisted the accusations are unfounded. CAF Disburses CFA120 million to Member States Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

African football governing body has followed the footsteps of FIFA in disbursing funds to member states to assist in the fight against Corona virus. CAF issued out cheques to representatives of member associations. The continental football governing body will also release an additional 6,393 million CFA francs that will see each federation receiving up to 120 million as subsidy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Football in Africa had been halted in March to curb the growing spread of COVID-19. While some leagues have been nullified, others are trailed by uncertainty and will be hoping on CAF and their federations to decide their fate. (Source:Africa news.com)
