DSS Operative Shot Dead by NSCDC Official in Osun State

  An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) named Seyi Adebowale was shot dead by an official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Sunday Dade in Osun State. Adebowale was gathered to have been shot in Kuta, Ayedire Local Government Area in the palace of the traditional ruler after the commissioning of a bridge built by the Nigeria Army which was flagged off by Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, on September 15, 2020. Kogi Govt Mourns Victims of Tanker Explosion

  Kogi state government has declared a two-day mourning period in commemoration of those who died in the tanker explosion in Felele, along the Lokoja-Abuja highway on Wednesday killing over 25 persons. The victims which included three nursery school pupils, five students of the state-owned polytechnic, and passersby were burnt beyond recognition in the explosion. The explosion was said to have been caused by a head on collision between a fuel-laden tanker and another vehicle. The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has directed schools to conduct COVIDD-19 risk assessment weekly. The directive comes as part of measures to contain the spread of dreaded COVID-19 virus as more states are set to fully reopen schools on Monday. The NCDC equally ordered local governments and states to conduct monthly and quarterly COVID-19 risk assessment in schools. Following the fire outbreak at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Akure, Ondo State, Police has launched an investigation to unravel circumstances leading to the incident. No fewer than 5,000 Smart Card Readers stored in a container inside the INEC office were destroyed during the fire that took place on Thursday. Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Bolaji Salami during his visit to the INEC office for an on-scene assessment said pledged to bring any individual involved in the fire to justice. CAF Postpones Continental Club Competitions Due to COVID-19 Upsurge

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed all the remaining matches in Africa’s two continental club competitions for a second time due to COVID-19 concerns. The postponement was informed by a surge in COVID-19 cases in Morocco which caused cancellation of fixtures in the North African country during the first two weeks of September, Punch reports. Two Moroccan clubs are still in the semi-final stage of the CAF Champions league and Confederations Cup and were scheduled to host the last two rounds of the Confederations Cup.
