Scores Injured as Gas Explosion Hits Rivers Community

Many people sustained varying degrees of injury while some residents fled as a gas plant exploded in Rumuodomaya community, Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday night, African News Today has gathered. The incident took place at about 8;45 pm with a loud sound which caused panic among residents of the area with some fleeing their homes in panic. African News Today could not ascertain the cause of the explosion at the time of filing this report. Explosion Hits Wike Father’s Church, Police Nab Suspects

The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has nabbed three suspects for allegedly detonating explosives at a church, located at Mile 3, Diobu area of Port Harcourt. The church, Christian Universal Church International is reported to be owned by the father of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. The suspects numbering about five raided the church around 8 pm on Saturday, Punch reports. Local vigilante group in the area blockaded the gunmen’s escape route after noticing abnormal movements and interfered. Gov Wike Relaxes Curfew in Oyigbo

In the wake of the alleged killing of security operatives by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, the Rivers State government has relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state. Speaking at the Government House in Port Hacourt, the Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim said the curfew had been reviewed to start from 7pm to 6am beginning from Wednesday. Rivers Approves October 5 for School Resumption

The Rivers State Government has approved Monday, October 5 as resumption date for universities, other tertiary institutions, secondary and vocational schools in the state. This was disclosed during a press briefing by Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku after an emergency State Executive Council meeting yesterday, presided by Governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt. Ebeku said the phased reopening does not permit primary schools to reopen.
