Nigeria: Snake Attacks Pastor In Abuja

A deliverance pastor in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, who was recently attacked by a mysterious big snake, says no form of attack will stop him from preaching the gospel of Christ and restoring destinies of the oppressed. An eye-witness told this reporter on Thursday that the pastor organised a thanksgiving on Saturday, praising God for His ''marvelous works'' in his life and family. Our source said the pastor, Levi Ogbonna of the House of Restoration in Jikwoyi, Abuja, has not been finding it easy in the area since he began the deliverance ministry. ''He occasional receive phone calls from persons who hid their numbers, warning him to back out. But he keeps insisting that he was called by God to set the captives free'', our source who is a member of the church said. Ogbon...

Opinion: The Desperate Agenda of an Evil Tyrant – Femi Fani-Kayode

Much has been brewing in the circles of power of our nation in recent weeks. Permit me to share some of my findings with my readers today. The rest will come later. Key players and leaders in the international community have warned President Muhammadu Buhari not to run for a second term but he has refused to listen. That is why he was in the United Kingdom for 16 days. He was not ill and he was not getting treatment for any ailment but he was consulting with and trying to convince the representatives of various foreign governnents, including the American, British and French, that he can still run in 2019 and win. My sources have confirmed to me that those he interacted with are not convinced but he has resolved to run regardless of their skepticism. They have asked him to probe...

Nigeria: Ex-President Jonathan Did A Lot for the North – Sheikh Gumi

Radical Muslim cleric, Ahmad Gumi has openly confessed that ex-president Jonathan did a lot for the north. In a Ramadan tafsir sermon in which he thoroughly berated President Buhari for his non-performance and the increased killings in the country, he pointed out that former President Jonathan built nine universities and over 150 Almajiri schools in the north. He also noted that Jonathan was also more democratic, allowing free speech even when it was against him. Below is an excerpt of his message: "Why I blame Jonathan with blood in his hand because Boko Haram were putting bombs everywhere and government was not doing enough”, he said. "Anybody killed under your regime, you are responsible for that blood. If you have done your best, I can say yes, Allah can forgive you. But if yo...

Nigeria: Muslim Rights Concern Gives Falz 7 Days to Withdraw Video

Falz is once again the center of attention with regards to his "This is Nigeria" video. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has given Falz a 7-day period within which to withdraw the video and apologise to Nigerians. According to the group, if he does not do this, he will face legal actions. The group particularly had issues with the girls dancing "shaku shaku" while dressed in hijab. They also commented on the Fulani man who was shown beheading someone after dropping his traditional guitar. Falz' attempt at explaining the concept of the video - where the girls wearing hijab and dancing "shaku shaku" represented the Chibok girls - was found unacceptable to the group. The group believes among other things that the video could instigate religious unrests as according to them it was in...

World: Pope Francis Requests Roman Catholic Priests Be Given the Right to Get Married

Pope Francis has requested that Roman Catholic priests be given the right to get married. The request applies to priests in Brazil, and is on the agenda for an upcoming synod (church council) in the Amazon region. The controversial move would address the critical shortage of men joining the priesthood – but is likely to drive divisions through the church by enraging conservative factions. A small number of married Roman Catholic priests already exist, including previously married Anglican vicars who have joined the church. A request to lift the ban on marriage was made by Brazilian bishop Cardinal Claudio Hummes, who reportedly asked the Pope to consider ‘viri probati’, meaning married of great faith, as priests. Derry priest Father Paddy O’Kane suggested that Pope Francis m...

Nigeria: CAN Disowns Arewa Pastors Forum

Challenges group to publish list of clerics on opposition payroll The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has dissociated itself from a group of Northern clergy under the aegis of Arewa Pastors Peace Initiative, Nigeria, APPIN, who visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday to pledge their support to him and his government. APPIN, under the leadership of Bishop John Abu, had told President Buhari during the meeting that those accusing his administration of nursing an Islamisation agenda were opposition elements trying to destabilise the government. The group, which also described President Buhari as God sent, promised to liaise with Pastors in Eastern and Western parts of the country to fish out their colleagues allegedly being used by enemies to cause violence by propa...

Nigeria: Herdsmen to Pay for Grazing Reserves, Says Osinbajo

…state, community police will end killings – VP Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday stated that the Federal Government lacked the powers to seize land from states for the establishment of grazing reserves or livestock production centres. Osinbajo also announced that herdsmen would pay for the services to be rendered by the proposed ranches or grazing reserves by the government. He stated these at the opening ceremony of a two-day summit on national security organised by the Senate in Abuja. Also in attendance are the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.); the service chiefs and senators. Osinbajo said, “Let me reiterate that on no account will any land be seized or forcefully taken...

Nigeria: I’ll Review Appointments to Address Marginalisation – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari told Catholic bishops in Abuja today that he would take a second look at appointments made by the Federal Government to redress issues being raised. He said the review will be done after a compendium of all appointments has been submitted to him. He told the bishops, under the aegis of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, that no ethnic group or political zone has been deliberately marginalised in the appointments made so far by his administration. The Nigerian leader was obviously reacting to criticisms that he may have violated the Federal character principle in some of the appointments made. The last time a compendium of appointments was done, the South West region led the rest of the country. President Buhari also explained that the policy prop...
