There is a viral message making the rounds in Nigerian social media circles about an alleged secret document from the International Criminal Court at the Hague, which shows that, “A top secret background check on global leaders, past and present,” found President Muhammadu Buhari to be “the only leader rated XXX1 on integrity, the highest rating globally.” Please don’t laugh. The message adds: “That's why he is the only world leader on the ICC floor to address them." The message emanated from Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives from Kano, who, I understand, granted an interview to Channels TV. Nigeria: Dino Melaye Abducted by Unknown Gunmen

Senator Dino Melaye has been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen on his way to Kogi. Information reaching us has it that the the Senator was on his way to Kogi to appear in court over charges of allegedly aiding criminals and attempted suicide. He was billed to appear in court today (Thursday 26th July) but was ambushed and abducted along the Abuja-Lokoja Highway on his way to answer the charges. The news broke when Senator Ben Bruce tweeted on his twitter handle that the Senator had been abducted. The tweet read "I have just been informed by Moses Melaye, @dino_melaye’s brother, that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has finally announced his defection from APC to PDP. He had days back announced that the party had given him the red card and that he was not yet committed to another party. He however later came back to say that he was back with the party as the party leadership had handled the issue that was the bone of contention. Nigeria: Bukola Saraki’s Convoy Blocked by the Police

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, this morning had his convoy intercepted and blocked by the Nigerian Police. He was on his way to honour the invitation extended to him by the Police to appear before it this morning by 8am. The Senate President had last night released a statement indicating that the Police sent a letter to him by 8pm, requesting that he reports to the Force Headquarters by 8am this morning. It is therefore not clear at this time why his convoy was blocked on his way to honour the invitation. Reacting to the letter again sent to him by the Police this night, inviting him to appear by 8am tomorrow (24th July 2018), Senate President, Bukola Saraki has said among other things that the concoctions and evil plots will not deter him. In a statement released on his Facebook page, he noted that the Police had corrupted and politicized their investigations into the Offa robbery incident. He said "They have turned it into an instrument for the party in power to suppress perceived opponents, witch hunt issue for blackmailing people from freely choosing which platform on which they want to pursue their ambitions and a matter for harassing the people whose exit from APC would harm the chances of the party in the forthcoming elections." Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has made a U-turn on his decision to leave the ruling party APC. His decision came after he met with the party's new chairman Adams Oshiomole. Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari was invited by the International Criminal Court (ICC) Hague to deliver the keynote address. This is to mark the court's 20th anniversary celebration. According to the Nigerian ambassador to the Netherlands, Oji Ngofa, the invitation extended to President Buhari to deliver the keynote address was a sign of the court's respect for Nigeria. It will be recalled that this year, a Nigerian, Chile Eboe-Osuji was elected President of the ICC. Nigeria: Gov. Samuel Ortom Defects from APC

Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has defected from the APC. Ortom announced his departure from the party on Sunday at the government house while he was swearing in his new Special Adviser on Local Government and Cheftaincy Affairs, Jerome Torshimbe. According to the governor, APC had given him the red card, leaving him outside the pitch. He said "I’ve been given the red card and I’m now outside the pitch. Speaking in his Church today, he said his decision was based on the obvious need for intelligent and capable leadership in the country.
