Now that Obaseki Has Chosen to Stand and be Counted…

Now that the characters to be played by the actors are known, the stage is set and the audience is cheering and chanting, what level of spectacle should the audience expect? The angel has fallen, the master has installed a new arch-angel, the fallen angel seeks to form a new kingdom rather than bow to his master. Edo state has emerged the scene of one of the most anticipated political actions as Nigerians look forward to the outcome of battle of gladiators. Incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki had become a political orphan after his disqualification by the All Progressive Congress (APC). Since the constitution of Nigeria does not yet permit for independent candidates for elections, Obaseki needed a political party which he would fly their flag. In 2018 after Akinwunmi Ambode had bee...

Imo Assembly: Defectors Have Lost Their Seats – PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received reports that some members of the Imo state House of Assembly elected on the platform of our great party, have decided to abdicate the mandate they hold on the pedestal of our party, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ostensibly for their very selfish gains. The PDP describes such action as unpatriotic and an unpardonable betrayal of the people of their respective constituencies who chose and identified with the ideal and visions of the PDP as the platform for their representation at the state assembly. The defectors have indeed shown absolute lack of character, failure of leadership capacity in moments of challenges and absence of faith to stand with the people in their most trying moment, but a...

PDP Loses Out as Tribunal Upholds Reps Member, Jimoh’s Victory

The national and state Houses of Assembly petition tribunal sitting in Ikeja on Wednesday, struck out the petition filed by the PDP and Tajudeen Jaiyeola Agoro, challenging the election of a member House of Representatives, Hon Jide Jimoh of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency seat. The election was held on February 23,  2019 across the federal constituency. The PDP candidate challenged the election on account of alleged unlawful declaration of Jide Jimoh as winner of the poll and claimed that the poll was marred with rigging, multiple thumb printing and did not comply with provisions of the Electoral Act. In a unanimous judgment, read by Justice Olamide, the tribunal held that the petitioner failed in all the petitions and ...

Opinion: No One is Expecting the Supreme Court to Pronounce Atiku Winner But…

No one is ever expecting the Supreme Court to pronounce Atiku winner but the point I believe they want to score has been achieved. I have been in that court all thru and for the first time I see Wole Olanipekun closing his case prematurely. It is not for any reason beyond the fact that the key witness they produce rather than helping the matter threw spanner in the works. The old man that came to testify on certificate said the army never collected their papers, the WAEC/, Cambridge man said the certificate out president is holding is not from them. Abba Kyari was the funniest of the three when he said he brought picture of the graduating set of the president and under cross examination the question was asked " is there a different between picture and certificate"? He answered yes. The...

Nigeria: Stop Trying to Deceive Nigerians – PDP to Osinbajo

The People's Democratic Party has advised Vice President Osinbajo to stop trying to deceive Nigerians manipulated figures. According to the PDP, this was simply an attempt at covering the woeful performance of the APC led government of President Buhari. The party rather admonished Osinbajo to show Nigerians this administration's score card rather than try to confuse them with bogus figures. In a statement, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party's spokesperson said "the Buhari administration, which crippled our once robust economy, pushed it into recession, turned our nation from a growing economy to a debtor country and world’s poverty capital. "Despite being busted, Osinbajo is labouring to deceive Nigerians by converting domestic borrowings in Naira, under the APC, to US dollars, so that ...
