Opinion: You are a Disgrace to the Noble Yoruba Ancestry – Nnamdi Kanu to Tinubu

You cannot sacrifice the blood of your brethren on the shrine of your greed, conceit and unbridled 2023 presidential political ambition. You are a disgrace to the noble Yoruba ancestry. You allow your self-centred avarice and ego to stifle the aspirations and destiny of your people. I must remind you today that your Fulani masters will never do for you what you are slavishly doing for them. You know in your heart of hearts that murderous Fulani herdsmen are culpable in the brutal murder of a Yoruba daughter and that Igbos had no hand in the Ore Highway Massacre. An influential Yoruba newspaper (PUNCH) reported that nearby villagers, who are Yorubas, informed police that the killer Fulani herdsmen have their base in a nearby forest. These are eye witness account from Yoruba people living...

Biafra: Justice Binta Orders the Arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, Trial for Treason Charges to Continue

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and directed that his trial on charges of treasonable felony should proceed in his absence. The judge, whose decision was anchored on the provisions of Section 352(4) of the Administrative of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, said Kanu had failed to appear in court since April 25, 2017 without any reasonable explanation. The lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Magaji Labaran, applied for the court’s orders earlier in the Thursday’s proceedings. Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had opposed Labaran’s oral application, and had asked to be given more time to explain why his client had not been in court by filing all necessary papers. He insiste...

Biafra: South-East Massively Complies with IPOB’s Sit-At-Home Order

Many major cities in the South-East were almost ghost towns today as there was a massive compliance with IPOB's sit-at-home order. Major roads, markets and motor parks were deserted. Commercial operations were non existent. Even the usually busy Niger bridge was deserted as no vehicular or human traffic was visible. IPOB claims that the order received 70% compliance while the Police in Anambra claims otherwise. In Anambra the order was totally complied with in Onitsha and Nkpor. However, Awka, Nnewi and some other rural communities had some activities, with banks offering minimal services. Security operatives were seen at major points, ready to intervene if there was a break down of law and order. Speaking on the success of the protest, Emma Powerful, IPOB's Media and Public...

Opinion: How Bad Does Nigeria Have to Get?

When a business becomes unprofitable and insolvent, it is put through the bankruptcy courts where it undergoes financial ‘restructuring’. This can involve de-mergers, spin-offs and other activities that show that the original enterprise was flawed and is resulting in losses for its stakeholders. How bad does Nigeria have to get before we embark on bankruptcy proceedings? How much more can we take before we ‘restructure’, de-merge, spin-off or do whatever it takes to stop this accelerating descent into medieval mediocrity that has been the case since 1966? Another election is like attempting to change management for a Horse Carriage business in the hopes that the new team will somehow achieve results against the trend towards automobiles (circa 1940s). With a situation like that...

Biafra: Sit-At-Home Order Paralysis South-East States

In celebration of this year's Biafra day on May 30th, Biafra agitators staged a sit-at-home protest which was said to have recorded about 95% compliance. The decision to stage sit-at-home protests to mark Biafra celebration day started last year as a result of the clamp down by Nigerian authorities on their non-violent street protests. According to Amnesty International, hundreds of unarmed protesters have been killed by the nation's security operatives at several peaceful protests. With the current sit-at-home protests, no violence is recorded and no lives are lost. The government is however not happy about the success these protests keep recording. According to Evang. Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, founder, Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) and deputy secretary, Igbo Leaders of Thought, the p...

Biafra: Another Successful Quasi Referendum – Evang. Elliot

Again, our people have spoken with one voice in completely paralyzing our region by staying at home yesterday in demonstration to the world, where we stand. Despite intimidations, harassment and threats from certain quarters, our people resolutely stayed indoors yesterday. We commend our people, for standing on the truth. This is particularly interesting, because, in spite of the spirited effort by government apparatchik to pervert the truth through inducement and blackmail. We congratulate the people of Eastern Nigeria. Government owned media reports hundred percent compliance in Aba, Nnewi, Onitsha, etc and over 70% compliance in other areas, the people have spoken. One year ago, after another successful sit at home, some people issued quit notice, mounted pressure, which led to un...
