NMA Threatens Strike As Aggrieved Patient’s Relatives Kill Doctor In Delta

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has spoken against the alleged killing of a Delta-based doctor identified as Uyi Iluobe, by relatives of a patient. The incident reportedly happened on Saturday in Oghara, Delta State. The NMA president, Uche Ojinmah, in a statement said the association received the news of the killing with shock and sadness. The association described the onslaught on the doctor, by aggrieved relatives of a patient who passed away from suspected gunshot injuries as unjustifiable. 507 Lagos Doctors Migrate To UK In Two Years – NMA

The Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has disclosed that 507 medical doctors practicing in the state relocated to the United Kingdom in less than two years due to poor working conditions in Nigeria. Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, the association’s Chairman stated this while interacting with Punch Health Wise. He urged the Federal and State governments to tackle the menace of brain drain in the country’s health sector.   The NMA Chairman said that brain drain has become a serious threat in Nigeria noting that medicine may go into extinction in the country if the menace is not promptly addressed as an emergency. Doctors Suspend Strike in Zamfara

Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its one week strike it embarked on to protest poor remuneration. The Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature, announced the suspension in a statement in Gusau on Tuesday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMA on December 10 directed its members to embark on a one-week strike. “I write to inform the public that the NMA has suspended the one-week strike it embarked upon last Thursday,’’ Bature said.
