ASUU Gives Payment of Arrears as Precondition to Ending Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has tasked the Nigerian Government to pay withheld salaries of its members as a precondition to suspension of ongoing industrial action.
National President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi while speaking at the unveiling of the union’s Universities Transparency and Accountability Solution at the University of Abuja said making the payment was instrumental to further negotiations with the government over the ongoing strike.
The ASUU chairman stated that the office of the Accountant-General had withheld about five months salaries of its members at University of Maiduguri and the Michael Opara University of Agriculture due to non-registration on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
