Most Vulnerable Nigerians Exempted from Tariff Increase, says NERC

The federal government has exempted poor and vulnerable Nigerians from the increased electricity tariff. This was disclosed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), in a tweet on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday. The tweet signed by James Momoh, Chairman of NERC, said the new tariff will exclude vulnerable customers consuming 50KW or less. The clarification comes after President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the implementation of the proposed electricity tariff hike but the commission has been quick to add that residential poor households will not be affected. Relocate Upland to Safer Ground, Red Cross Tells Residents of Flood Prone Communities as NiMet Raises Flood Alert

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu Chapter has asked residents of flood prone areas in Enugu State to relocate to safer ground as it aims to avert loss of lives and properties in the event of flood. The call was made when the group embarked on a sensitization campaign in Enugu along with other stakeholders to educate the residents on flood preparedness, mitigation and response. It comes after predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) that 2020 will witness heavy rainfall with potential flood. Chloroquine Effective for COVID-19 Prevention – NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has declared chloroquine as potent for the prevention of coronavirus. This was disclosed by its Director General, Christianah Mojisola Adeyeye who during an interview with reporters said the agency has realised that chloroquine can be used in the early stage of the coronavirus infection as preventive treatment. The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has said private universities are more prepared for resumption than government owned tertiary institutions.
